Please Help ...car wont start

I let my GF drive my car the other night. The next day it wouldn't start. A little gurgle but nothing really.

I thought it may be the distributor so i did the HEI module. Still nothing. Its getting gas cause I can smell it. Its getting spark too.

Is it possible the timing belt went out? Thats the only thing I can really think of. It was hessitating under load for a while now. Bogging down until the rpms reached about 3-4k and on the throttle.

Is there a way to check timing without timing light?

Thanks for the help.

Hi, I noticed you did not do a search on this subject. Here is a link that may help narrow down all the possibilities since there is no easy answer. Also the online manual has a great troubleshooting section. Hope this helps.

What would make you think it was the disty? Did you eventually confirm that it was a faulty disty before opting for the HEI mod? Was your HEI mod done correctly? Assuming that the HEI mod was done correctly (since you said you're getting spark after the fact), than it appears that it may be a timing issue. "Is it possible the timing belt went out?" - Well of course it is possible. Only you would know when the last timing belt change was done. Needs to be replaced every 90,000kms or so. How many kms/miles is on the current one? There's no easier way if that's what your asking as far as checking the timing. What's wrong with doing things the correct (online manual) way? Only other idea I've got is something I've posted previously and as FlyVFR as mentioned, if a search had been done you might have gotten all of the answers you needed. I posted that there may be a possibly that the timing belt has jumped or shifted on the pully's making it very hard to start, crappy mileage and power and overall very lethargic. This is sometimes a precursor to a failed timimg belt. I say sometimes because I had the timing belt on my 90 3.0L MPV jump a few teeth on the pully in the dead of one of the coldest days in winter when the van was brand new. Hope this helps and in future try the search function - you may get all of your answers much quicker - hours instead of days. g/l
