I am up for a new challenge here.... I want to install my remote starter but I have no idea what the wire colors are.... any help guys?

I also wanna install the actuator on the driver door for power locks!!!

anyone know where to look for the wire codes??

is it possible to have a remote starter on a manual car?

i have a 93 v6 1.8 and i'm wondering if i can do it..i dont want to go to some install place and have them look at me like i'm missing an eye.

oh, and any recomandations for a decent remote starter/alarm??

Best bet would be a Prostart from canadian tire, futureshop or best buy.


but make sure you get one that is specific for a manual car. ..; . . or u could get into some trouble............

It's possible, but most places won't do it for you since it's illegal in most areas. There is a neutral safty wire that shows ground when an automatic car is in park or neutral, this prevents the car from remote starting in gear. Manuals have a neutral safty switch, but it shows ground when the clutch is depressed. For the remote start to work the two switches on the clutch pedal have to be overridden, thus making the car illegal. There might be some remote starter system that is legal that somehow senses if the car is truely in gear, but i haven't seen one (I really haven't looked).

I have a viper alarm with remote start. The only other one i've toyed with was a clifford (basically the same thing).

Unless your in need of an alarm there is no point in wasting the money on remote start. Also, make sure you are absolutly confident in your ability to always park out of gear, can refrain from abusing the ability to r.s., and can remember never to use it if you wern't the last one out of your car. Remote start can be extremely dangerous if handled improporly. Use it wisely.

Thats probably only because they don't know how to install them properly or get the right kit (probably the ones for automatics). I have a remote starter in my manual Mx-3 and the clutch safety isn't bypassed. Now, I didn't install it myself, I had just gotten my Mx-3 and didn't feel comfortable installing it, but the only one who would do it was my mechanic. I got a pro-start 3in1 from Canadian Tire specifically designed for manual transmission vehicles. Basically it monitors the e-brake and you have to have the remote starter take control of the engine before turning off the engine and getting out of the car (so obviously the car NEEDS to be in neutral) and turn it off once the doors closed. When you open the door, the remote starter disables, assuming that the shifter may have been moved.

The one on my manual zx2 is for an automatic. The clutch sensor needs to be bypassed. It is ABSOLUTLY essential you are in neutral and the E brake works well. You just have to make it a habbit to put the shifter in neutral when you park.

I guess thats one way to do it. It wouldn't be too hard to hard wire some contraption to do that. The viper allows you to basically do that (hit the remote start when the car is running, take the keys out, turn the car off from the outside), but I can remote start whether I do that or not.

As for your neutral safty switch, yes, it has been bypassed. If you try to turn a standard manual on without depressed the clutch it wont turn over. When you use your remote start, the clutch isn't depressed, thus it has been overridden. The good thing about your tho is that they replaced it with a different neutral safty switch, as opposed to my setup that unfortunatly has none...

I'm not saying that's it's not possible, but that's the right way of doing it, and in that case, remote-starter-installers should have no issue installing a remote started into a manual transmission vehicle since the liability that they are affraid of would not exist.

Now, I don't know if the stock clutch safety switch is still in use, or if there's a aftermarket replacement or if there's a second circuit wired in parallel that works in conjunction with the stock one, I couldn't tell you since I'm not the one that did the installation. I'm just stating that to bypass the clutch safety is; 1)not needed 2)potentiall a bad idea 3)if done properly, any place should not be affraid to install a remote starter into a manual transmission vehicle, therefor 4)not breaking any laws if applicable in certain states/provinces
