would it be a good idea to have a oil catch can with a turbo set up?? If yes where would be the best place to have it on a DOHC b6??

between valve cover/pcv valve

if i have the right idea would a catch be a can that catches oil comin out of the pcv valve and prevent it from gettin in ur intake? if so wouldnt u want it after the pcv valve and b4 the manifold? also wasnt there another thread about this?

He want's to know where to mount the can itself.

I put mine on the firewall right next to where the a/c evaporator core lines used to come out. I had to remove it to make it fit there.

You don't want to get rid of the pcv, you need that. You want to put the hose leading to the can where it would normally go into the intake tract, after the mass air flow unit.

Great info so far guys (much appreciated for a rookie on this topic). Is an oil catch can a "must have" for turbo applications?

My apologies in advance for this question as I know little about these cans and their application(s).

Cant hurt to have a catch can on a Boosted application, as long as its hooked up correctly.
WHat it does is direct the excess blow by into the can instead of the intake manifold, which can hurt performance and possibly lead to detonation.

truth is you shouldent have blow by anyways. so you dont need a can, its just nice to have one espically if your raceing it. but i was getting some leakage into my mani from my PCV so i put in a small inline fuel filter to catch the oil. same ones you get for a 2 stroke bike. but then i just put on a B6T PCV and no leakage, but i still run the filter. i know some people like Bugs could use a good catch can

either way a oil catch can will only do good to the motor not harm!!!

But aren't the vast network of baffles in the valve cover suppose to work the oil out?

I've taken a valve cover apart, and there are I think at least 2 or 3 compartments that the air from the head has to go thru to exit thru that hole.

It's just interesting how oil still gets thru...

If you throw an oil catch can in, how often do you have to empty it?
