Hello. sorry for asking this but how much does the GS REALLY weight? I ask because i bought this car specifically for its light weight since i heard in a forum that it weights around 2500 - 2600 Pounds. Now when i ran a program called "CarTest" it says the MX3 GS weights 2700, THEN when i check my car (On the side of the driver's door) says above 3000 pounds  (!)

Is this correct?? I cant believe the MX3 is this heavy, ive seen 4 door cars that weight less than this. Sorry if i sound a little paranoid but i chose light weight-ness over power when looking for a car and tuning this car is REALLY expensive and hard to do (But im sure you all know that :P ) i could live with 2700 and loose a couple of panels but 3000! My cars a fatass! >_<

Thanks

P.S. Discuss weight in pds instead of Kgs Thanks

the stickers on the cars never tell u the weight of the car they tell u load capacaties and such of the tires and all that jazz

it weighs roughly around 2400 pounds, but then if u have stereo equipment and u in it then add another 200 pounds

Yeah dont go buy the stickers on the car..thats a totally diff thing. Our cars are around 2500ish depending on some factors.

2400? you sure? I know it was really weird because the V6 engine is like 600 Pounds and the back of the car is pretty much just the hatch and most of the weight is in front. So how do you know exactly how much the GS weights? isnt there a manual or something from Mazda that tells you these sort of things? I think it has to be a little above 2400 cus thats what the Miata weights i think but i pray your right :P

True, but the Miata being a convertable may have structural reinforcement adding to it's weight, as well as a added RWD components that our FWD car's lack

2540? Thanks! thats a nice number :D Sorry i dont have the manual my car is used i bought it recently cost me 2K with 119Kmiles on it, im thinking of getting the ZE engine when i reach 200Kmiles and fixing the rest of the car in the mean time. Wow getting a cluch in this thing costs me over 300 bucks (Including the clutch) turns out a common oil leak got into my transmission and into the clutch killing it plus another part in there i cant recall the name, something that needs cutting because it got missaligned and bend. Well Atleast now i know is worth it

The moral of the story watch out for oil leaks in a compact FF car! >_<

The actual curb weight was posted in all the major car magazines when it was tested in 92/93. It was also in the MX3 sales flyer.

And the K series engines weigh nowhere near 600 lbs. They're closer to 300 lbs for the long block.

Info is linked on the mx-3.com main page. See it directly here. Scroll down 2/3 of the page and the GS curb weights appear. http://mx-3.com/brochure/specifications.cfm Specs are right out of the Mazda Factory Shop Manual.

GS MT/AT: 1171 kg (2582 lbs)/ 1194 kg (2632 lbs)

And right, ignore the sticker on your door jamb. That is your specifiied GVWR - Gross Vehicle Weight Restriction, not actual curb weight, but the max total weight the car should not exceed to maintain manu rated safety/handling. GVWR would include full tank of gas, passengers, luggage, FATHEADED mother-in-law, etc. Oh, and that last one will possibly crash your suspension or blow out yer tires if it weighs too much.
