car audio problem

my brother recently purchased a 2 door dodge shadow 4 winter use and he went to install a head unit but when he wired it all up and went to turn it on nothin happened no lights or noise does the head unit need to be grounded off the speakers becuz there is none in the car and there is 4 spots for the speakers does there need to be speakers for the head unit to be turned on?

No there doesnt have to be speakers to turn on but in those cars the Ground is separete from the two harness, the black and grey plugs are in the car now, the grey has both powers IGN and constant and also has the front right and left speaker wires aswell, in the black plug is the rest of all the speaker wires but again Ground is separate. Usually there is a huge metal strap that is attached to the back of those radios from stock, use that as the ground and try that, if that doesnt work then let me know.

did he use a plug or hack the harness
