is there a way to rig up the headlights to come on automatically when it gets dark? seems like it'd only be matter of installing some kind of sensor, but i don't know much about it...
it'd feel a lil more luxurious though

thats not nice... virtually every high end car these days come with that feature. whats wrong with wanting what they've got?
if you bought an rx-8 would you request they not put in auto lamp because you're not lazy?

The MX-3 is not a high-end car.

Not trying to be a d---, just being honest. Seems like a lot of people these days dont want honesty anymore.
How hard is it to flip on a damn switch when you need the lights on?

fair enough, and i wouldn't hold that against you... but you seem to have the wrong spirit of things.
why have power windows -- too lazy to crank that knob a few times? what're power locks for, why can't you just reach across?
in all honesty, since it's so valued, convenient things are luxuries, sure. so's a car, for that matter.
as for the mx-3 not being a luxury car... well i guess i'll strip out those leathers i was lucky enough to source, and scrap my sound deadening project. i wouldn't want my interior sounding like the inside of a lexus or anything...
incidentally i misspoke myself to even mention high end cars, since the majority of cars, high end or no, DO have auto lamps. plus i mean.. an rx-8 is running about 27g's brand new. we're not talkin about jaguars here...
you just took the worst possible interpretation of what i was asking could be done... apparently i wasn't the only one who thought that was a bad attitude. but hey, you were just being honest.

Hah- Point taken.
I am sure there are kits to make your lights come on automatically. Cost may be an issue though.
Good luck.

Rip it out of a car that came with autolights. I know some older Mercury's had them, it's just a photosensor. Speaking of features, I would find rainsensing wipers and autodimming mirror much more useful than autolights. I don't want my damn lights to come on by themselves anyway.

if it was up to me, i'd have everything manual. no electrical issues to worry about.

All you' d need is a 12V photo electric switch and a relay so the cost wouldn't be a lot. The wiring would be quite straightforward. I think you'd also need to consider a switch so you could turn the lights off if you needed to. You'd just need to pick up a power supply thats only on when the ignition is on and power up the headlight relay. You'd also need to power up the taillights so this is where you'd need the relay.
