[RANT]

Well lets start off.
a few years ago I purchased a GS as a project car.
I drove 1400 miles round trip to get it and had to rent a tow dolly, ect.
I got it home, fixed the mody and mechanical and had it working great.
I was putting a motor ina friends MX-3 and he borrowed my project car to drive while we did his swap. I had purchased a KFZE to put in it, and was going to swap it right after I did his.

Well, he totalled out my car, and his insurance wouldnt pay cause its not his car. They said it was my car, my insurance shopuld cover it. Well, I didnt insure it cause I never drove it. (my mistake). He had full coverage insuarnce so his should have taken care of it, but didnt. After 3-4 months, I told him to buy the car from me. Which he did, and I lost about $2000 in the deal because of all the work/parts I put ont he car and the car itself.

I purchased another GS from my neighbor with the $$ I got from my friend. All it needed was axles. It was now winter time and I couldnt do my swap for a while. After about a year of all of this, weathers looking better, so I start to do my swap. Spend out another $1000 on parts, ect for the GS to get it swapped. I put the new axles in, drove it around the block to be sure the car ran fine w/ the original motor/drivetrain, which it did. Pulled it into the garage and pulled out the motor. The KFZE was prepped and dropped in. After taking my time to do it all correctly, 2 weeks later its finished.

We start up the car, runs great! check for leaks, none. We check for odd sounds, all sounds are normal. It ran for about 10 mins total . So, we put the wheels on it and lower it to the ground. I was happy.

Then... we try and start the car, it will not start for anything! we look for problems, and see none. I swap FPRs, TPS, everything, still nothing.
So I borrow a compression checker and its down to 35psi ,45psi , 80psi in 3 cylinders. That SUX. we put oil inthe pug hole, it jumps up to 180psi. Then after each start, it drops. Piston rings are gone.
I call around, it would cost just as much for a new motor as it would to get the parts I need to fix it from Japan. Im now bummed out.

Well, Mike Evans (Zoso124) had came down to visit and help me install the motor. While he was there he picked up a set of KL heads/cams that he needed to fix his own car. I told him since he drove all this way, take what he wanted.

He was my best man @ my wedding and for a wedding gift he told me he wanted to build me a motor to replace my trashed KF. I of course accepted his offer.

Well the next weekend my friend Daniel came and got my 2.5L block and auto tranny I had sitting in the corner for a while from a ZE install in an mx-6.
... 2 days later Mike calls me and says the block we were gonna use has a low spot in a cylinder wall, and we need a new block.
I JUST GAVE MINE AWAY!!!!!

So Mike locates another block in St louis. 3.5 hrs from him as well as a set of millena heads. My neighbor gets me a set of ZE heads and intake manifold from a millenia as well. Mike was going to put together the heads and I would replace the heads with the ones I got from my neighbor.
Well.. Mike gets a van, lift, and gets ready to drive to get the block. He calls the kid to confirm hes getting the block/heads. Well the kids making excuses, and now Mike cant get them until July 20th because hes going out of town for 2 weeks next weekend.

My neighbor comes up to me and says.. Dude bad news. Those heads, I had them checked out, were cracked, both of them were.

So now Im back to square 1. for 3 years now Ive been trying to get a GS w/ a better motor and have run into a wall on every turn I make. I'm almost to the point where Im ready to just give up. I've put to much $$ into a project that has went nowhere in 3 years.
[/rant]

So now I'm out looking for another 2.5L block and millenia heads....

I can relate..
i built a civic w/ dohc vtec that took me almost that long. then the motor threw 3rodbearings..
My best advice..
is KISS
Keep it simple sammy!
Don't get fancy w/ swapping heads.. go with a brute of an Oem setup.. and lighten your car to compensate..
these are all money pits..
if your a family man.. the money may be "meant to go elsewhere in the future" and adversity now is possibly protecting you from a hypothetical danger in the future.. I really believe that There is a One true God, He has mad skills and looks out for His creation yo.. and sometimes.. things suck but they can also be a blessing in disguise..
But if you really want a fast car.. nice stock oem motor that came out of a running junkyard car might be the best way to go. have them cut you a front clipp.. yank everything yourself.. so you know that no wires were stretched and no sensors banged etc..
just my 2cents.
take care
