MX-3 Racing Heritage?

So I was at MazdaUSA reading the MAZDASPEED Motorsports section about an article they did on Tri-Point's Mazda6 effort in SWC. And side note, if you aren't watching this race series, you should. Anyway, They're going over the drivers like crowd favorite Pobst, and 2004 Rookie of the Year Dino C. and my fav and personal autograph, Jeff Altenburg.

Well, would you freakin' know it, Jeff had his:

In fact, his first ever road race was completed behind the wheel of a Mazda MX-3 (at Sebring in 1992).

Interesting! I e-mailed him last week before his race at Mid-Ohio but I'm definitely going to ask him about this next time. Again, the race series is presented by SPEEDtv Channel. TC class races are usually at 1pm EST and GT class right afterwards at 2pm. TC class runs Mazda6, TSX, WRX, Focus, SRT-4, BMW-3series, RSX, A4s, C230s. GT class runs the 911 Cup Cars, Vipers, Vette C6, GT0s, CTS-V, S60-Rs and such.
