The Good Stuff?

It has become quite obvious to the people in this forum that I do not know what exactly the good stuff is. So if all my stuff indeed sux (I am aware Boss is sucky) what should I purchase as far as a Sub, amp and headunit. I am planning on selling my entire setup because I don't want to be riding around with sub par stuff and saying it is sweet, you know. I was doing a bit of reasearch on the topic and I was thinking an alpine headunit, an alumapro 12" sub and a phoenix gold amp. Hows that sound. depending on what I get for all my junk pluss about 500bucks is my budget. I am looking for sugestions from the pro's here. Thanks

Endless possibilities. If you shop on Ebay, then you can get a good set-up for $500. I think a JL Audio sub/amp, MtX sub/amp, Kicker sub/amp, are all safe choices. But it all depends on your preference, and what type of sound you want.

I'm a HUGE fan of Pioneer for their headunits's, installed one in both the Mx-3 and the 626 have one, as well installed on in my sister's '93 Prelude, and my buddy who's more into car audio than me had Pioneer's in his '86 Prelude and his Accord.

Well, in all honesty, i wouldn't put the Clarion in with the questionable.. they make some seriously durable stuff, and i'm only talking about the low end. Kenwoods higher end stuff is pretty good as well. I've been running clarion gear for the last 7 years and i've only ever blown 1 amp, and that was my own fault. I find you can get some excellent #s from Clarion, and you don't spend off the wall amounts of money like you would have to if you went with, say, Eclipse. I used to have a pair of Clarion 10" subs (the cheapies) and i was hitting 139db with them, and i was throwing 500 RMS at them.. way more than they should handle. I musta kept them for almost 3 years before I got a couple of PPI 12s

Awesome stuff, clarion is
Here's my setup:
Clarion DZH945 head unit
Clarion remote bass gain
Clarion 6 disc changer
Clarion DPX640.2 2-channel amp running the fronts
Clarion APX1000.2 2-channel for the subs
Eclipse 6.5" component set in front
2 12" PPI C2 competition subs
Lightning Audio 1 farad power cap
4 gauge power/ground wire
WIth that and some tuning i can hit 145 on a good day
