CEL + idle issue

Occasionally my cel comes on, and when it does it gives a real rough idle to the car to the point where it sometimes stalls. But it drives perfect with the light on. The code i pulled was 16 (egr position sensor). What causes the rough idle only when the cel comes on? And without fixing the sensor cause i am putting a new engine in soon anyway, is there anything i can do about it?

Yeah well its fine when its moving, but if the cel is on and im stopped at a light or in heavy traffic, its real shakey and cuts out sometimes. I cant ignore that.

Nobody knows why the car gets a real rough idle only when the cel for code 16 is on? I often see people talking about the ecu going into limp mode but dont know what that means, so is limp mode the cause of this?

i had a similar problem, but without the code 16. i had a leak in my accordian tubing going from the air box to the throttle body and it was causing me to stall out every time i stopped. basically, i couldn't let the rpm's drop below 1000. loads of fun in traffic (all three pedals needed simulaneously, but only two feet)

I look at it as like when your home computer goes into safe mode - still works......sorta......with limitations. I'm assuming that with the MX, it's the ECU telling you that there's something wrong, that there's something that requires addressing and that you continue to have use of the operating systems to a limited level. That something that's wrong is something that should not be disregarded or dismissed and which in all probability can cascade into other systems failures. I knew the reasoning for earlier CEL codes and was willing to accept the consequences / risk of not addressing those faults in a timely fashion. I should also mention that during that time I observed no significant loss in performance.
Now, it's a different story since the ZE conversion. I like to get back the user friendliness I lost after doing the conversion, not to mention the quality of operation is significantly diminished - shitty idle issues, idle searching, high idling, no throttle kick-down when the clutch is depressed, just a few nuisances that I don't appreciate enduring after spending mucho bucks for the "ultimate performance conversion".....starting to be a bit of a let-down.
Oh Ohhhh, I'm ranting again.......must be carefull....could be liable for thread hijacking............LOL

dude you will eventually find out what it is..for me i just barel found out i was getting code 05 i found out the knock sensor wire was not grounded..only straight tpo ecu.. when the ecu goes in limp mode it wont go over 90 mph and if it does it takes forever past that.. i fixed it and now the car mvoes wonderfull..also the vris solenoids dont work correctly when its in limp mode..you loose the power surge u get after 4 k rpm in 1st gear .it really sucks to be in limp mode. also make sure you ont have ypour ten and gnd pins on..i left mine on by accident and went for a drive..altough it did go over 100 .
