To anyone with Racing Seats

I'm considering just getting some racing seats for my car instead of reupholstering my beat-to-hell stock seats. The cushions are worn and don't offer the support they should. They also reek of cigarettes still from the previous owner and it'd be nice to just get rid of em.

Anyways, for those who have racing seats how are they? I'm curious as to how you mounted them & if they sit any higher than the stock seats did. Also how comfortable are they on longer trips (1+ hours of sitting).

I'm not sure what brand I'll get yet. I might even opt for some cheap-azz ebay ones if I can find someone locally that has a set that will let me "test em out" prior.

Gro, why not some MX6 leather seats? I thinks it's just a relocation of the rear mounting bolts for the tracks and that's it. They look plenty comfy enough.

Pimpn' $$$$$ too, I imagine. My old Celica and all the Supras had some pretty wicked seats too.

Why not some RX-7 Seats. If you can find them. If that would be me, I would not go for anything less that Recaro or Sparco territory. Imho, All aftermarket cheaper seats are just that CHEAP: Heavy, poor upholstery, uncomfortable, hard to fit, cheap frames. They only look good.

IMO they are fugly looking, but thats just me.

RSX seats are an option but depending on how they mount in the mx3 cockpit, they'll be too uncomfortable unless mounted high which = bad for me seeing how i'm 6'4"

i guess you woulddnt want another pair of mx3 seats in better shape and reupholster them ?

im sure you thought of that already... how about the red/black seats out of the RX-8's those are friggin awesome... (since u are painting car red) of course price is no concern, right ? :)

Anyone got some pictures on custom brackets that lets aftermarket seats sit as low as possible?

I really hate that Mazda made the stock seat higher on one side than necessary.

Now my aftermarket seat is so high I cant use a helmet, and so cant go to the track :/

i just drilled my stock seat rail onto the racing seats like monty did. when i did that it was fine just the kind of looked like if it was leaning to the side a little. so what i did to fix the problem was just add some thick washers to raise the side a bit. then i was was good to go! i have the tenzo r seats and there very comfortable and dont sit high. oh by the way..... iam selling them if your interested? or anybody? :)

corbeau's are supposed to be the cheapest for the best quality around. most people get those over recaro's or sparco's just because they're so comfortable.

corbeau's do have seat rails but you have to order the seats

Most Aftermarket seats than have recline function on them weigh more than stock mx-3 seats.

Yeah, I considered aftermarket seats myself at first.

I got a couple of estimates from local auto upholstery places. The general consensus seems to be for the two front seats, the back bench, and all of the door inserts will be about $1000-1500 and 5-7 days of work.

I think I may just go with this option myself. I figure if I ordered new seats (aftermarket) I would still have to get them reupholstered to match the color scheme I'm going for.
