Millenia IM

i see people writing 'Milllenia IM' in their signature a lot in this forum... i assume the 'IM' stands for Intake Manifold, and that they took it off of a Mazda Millenia??? anyway, can some one explain the physics behind how upgrading your intake manifold can increase hp? i understand how exhaust headers work, and i think i kinda understand why an upgraded air intake creates more hp (the less amount of restriction from air intake = more air flow, more air flow = more air/fuel mixture into cylinder, more air/fuel mixture into cylinder = bigger explosion, bigger explosion = more hp???? or did i kinda mix the whole concept of air intake w/ forced induction a little bit there at the end?? plus i guess the fact that the colder the air, the denser it is, and the denser the air is inside the cylinder, the greater the explosion???), but i've never really considered the intake manifold... i need an explanation about how and why some intake manifolds are better than others, cuz i never really considered the idea... i just thought they'd all perform the same...
w/ all that said, if my assumption was right that Millenia IM means what i thought it did, how much extra hp is gained by switching over?
p.s. i know all of this is so fundamental to a lot of you, but be gentle, i'm still trying to learn so that i can become as knowledgeable as a lot of people in this forum
thanks in advance

the millenia intake is the same as the curved neck KL-ZE intake, the ports are teh same size as the KL-ZE head intake ports, my KL-ZE started as a straight neck, got a millenia IM cause it was cheaper than getting a "JDM curved neck"

translation???
remembering i'm working myself out of the trenches of ignoramus status, i need things spelled out for me in laymens terms...

Millenia intake = bigger holes so more air can flow through. Layman enough for you?

M M: Same reasons for me and my KLZE engine. The Millennia IM just compliments the rest of the engine components for the KLZE (completes the package). I don't believe it's something that goes onto the K8. Hope that helps.

Yes, there isn't much point in just bunging a bigger conduit into the middle of a properly designed system.
It's true that bigger diameter will offer a lower resistance to airflow (less pressure drop - in this case it's vacuum drop, but that's just a special name for pressure below atmospheric). However, the transition between two different diameters is even more important - you can get much more pressure drop from that. If you were to completely replace the K8 inlet tract with that from the Millenia, including opening out the ports in the head in a very careful manner, you would probably see a small improvement.
