where'd you mount your tweeters? i'm debating on where to put my tweeters and i wanted some input/feedback...

also, i borrowed from my local library a book called "The Car Stereo Cookbook". it had some guidelines to go by when deciding where to mount tweeters...

The first and most important thing, it said, was to make sure that the tweeter is never mounted more than 6 inches away from it's corresponding full-range speaker. After this specific is meant, it said, try to also meet these guidelines

1. do not mount where a passenger forms an obstacle between you and a tweeter.

2. do not mount too close to your ear (you'll hear only that speaker).

3. Mount tweeters as close to ear level as possible.

4. Aim tweeters toward listeners' ears.

5. Beware of windshield reflections.

so with all that said, i need options/opinions!

it all depends on the setup of your system and your listening preference. Those books are based on the ideal setup for the ideal car, in a perfect world. though what it says is usually true, it's not always the case. The location of our stock speakers is poor. Mainly because your legs are in the way that the sound is projected. In my car, I have mid bass speakers in the stock locations and my tweeters mounted in the bottom corners of the windshield, but on the dash. For my listening preference,(and the fact that the subwall is right behind me), This is the "sweet spot" for my tweets. Now on the other hand, If I had custom kickpods made up, I'd want the tweets to be 6" or less away from the mid, Just because I could point BOTH in any direction I wanted. A good source for finding the "sweet spot" in your car, consult the pros at car sound and secutity magazine.(they are online, and many questions I have had in the past were answered by them)

I'm going to put my tweeters up on my dash because I heard all they are there for is to make up for the sound you lose from your speakers in the doors and that the sound will bounce off the windshied toward you. Or something...

are those speakers stock or part of a component set up, do most speaker mount that simply with 3 screws?

Those speaks aren't stock, no paper cone , MOST mid level - higher end speakers come with adapter plates that make it simple, I know my Alpine's came with an adapter plate to fit the front 2 doors, the adapter plate's for the back don't work, or didn't for me, so yea.

according to that book when you mount tweeters on the dash (not recommended), you should either mount them as close to the windsheild as possible, or as far away from the windshield as possible while also aiming them away from the glass. the reason for this is to improve imaging. you see, if you mount the tweeters, say, mid way on the dash, this will really degrade your imaging because you will be hearing the same sounds twice (seperated by time because as we know sound only travels at 742 mph), even though it will ever so slightly. the 2 sounds will be once from the tweeter itself, and once bouncing off the glass. hence, the guidelines i just posted--either mount the tweeters right up against the glass, or as far away from the glass possible while being positive that the sound is pointed away from the glass so that minimal noise will bounce off the glass

well they are unfinished..... the highlighted yellow parts are parts that I planned on improving on....

I am getting alpine type S for the front, tell me, should I get 5 1/4 or 6 1/2?

Websites like crutchfeild and autotoys all say that the front speakers are 5 1/4, but, i dunno about that. Will the alpine 6 1/2's be better?

I know it isn't "aimed at my ear" but I had plans to get some front Focal components that never happened. I'm actually quite satisfied with the setup I currently have, sounds awesome.

Tweeters/high frequencies are supposed to come from the front though....
