does the mzada protege rims fit an mx-3??

I assume you are talking about a 5spoke 16" alloys that 1999-2001 LX model came with and then 2002-2003 ES/GT came with. All others came with hubcaps. If so, then, NO. They are 5-bolt pattern.

the optional alloys on the dx/lx do fit, but the factory ones that come on the ES, protege5, mp3 and MSP don't fit (5-lug)
the 99-00 model rims fit regardless of trim...tehy are all 4x100. I had some 15" 2000 Protege ES rims on my car for quite a while.
