Nothing but problems...

****! I hate this stupid *** car- someone explain to me again why I bought this POS? Anyways, Its doing something strange and was wondering if the panel of experts on here might know what could cause this. The past couple days I will be driving along and all of a sudden the RPM drop to 0 and I cant accelorate- then like 10-15 seconds later im able to accelorate again. But this isnt when im stopped- this is when im going at like 120kmph down the QEW. So its kind of scary being in front of a bunch of speeding cars and slowing down to like 70kmph. Man- this kind of stuff makes me feel sick to my stomach :(
Someone help!!
Thanks

Well, have you checked for vaccume leaks?
When did this start?
what was recently installed?
...give a little more info.

I havent had anything installed as of late- just PVC valve change and oil/air filter change.
Not much info I know- Im just as confused :(

Agree with both ideas... a likely vac prob... & get it checked by a decent mechanic. Had a distinctly similar problem myself on a 92 civic (my pre-mx days ;) ). Had just bought the car-used- a week earlier, it ran like a top, was newly inspected and I did a full tune up- std. maintenance stuff etc.

Cruising for a few hrs. on I-95 at 75mph on a trip, suddenly the engine dies but "comes back" 10 seconds later. Almost like it was outta gas but fuel ga. showed 1/8- 1/4 tank. Little while later it dies again and won't restart until after I sat there for 15-20 minutes when it could be started and only run slowly and ran rough. A nearby Honda dealership checks it out, changes the fuel filter (only thing I HADN'T done before.) Starts ok, I gas up and go. No probs til a month later when it happens again under the same conditions. Argghhhh. This time I had a flight to catch and was 2 miles from the airport.

My clue... fuel ga. showed 1/8- 1/4 tank & the ga. was functioning correctly. Turned out to be a vacuum pressure problem affecting the fuel supply that happened only at highway speeds and was related to the fuel tank being under 1/4 full. This was a long time ago & wish I could remember what was done to correct the prob. but it ended up being towed and fixed while I made my plane. Anway, it was a vacuum issue and I'd recommend taking it to a trusted mechanic. G'luck.

Thanks for your help "perhapsadingo..."- I will take it in I just havent had the time to since I work 8:30-4:30 everyday so I'll have to wait until friday to take it into my mechanic who is in Orangeville when I work in Oakville- until then I take the risk of driving my death trap.

And Gregory- no I havent... im just a girl u know- what exactly is this "mechanic" you speak of?

hey ya i just had my distributor replaced it was doing crazy stuff too until it eventually gave out on me when i was speeding along and wouldnt start again. i feel your pain it cost alot to fix and its super scary when your car craps out in traffic. i was told by my mechanic that mazda makes poor distributors so its good to replace it with a new one. i think he just wanted the extra $400 difference in price compared to a used one. ah well im a sucker.
