MX3auto>ProbeGTAuto

I will start this out by saying, i already searched, and looked around on MX-3.com

I have a tranny out of a 93PGT. It is an auto, ford tranny code 4EAT i believe.

I am trying to buy a MX-3 with a blown tranny. It is a GS, and a 93 model. Does the MX-3 have the same tranny? What is the code for the 93 GS tranny? Do the autos have the same gear ratios? Has anyone done this swap succesfully? Do you have to get any different parts aka drive shafts, tranny mounts, starter? If there has already bene a post about this, a simple link for a search impaired person like me would be sufficient.

if its an auto, you SHOULD be able to swap them and use your ownaxles ect.Not sure if its the same model #, but it is a K series motor in both so it should mount, but you MAY need the ATCM module if its a different code tranny.
Someone else confirm this.

The transmission will mount up IF you customize one of the mounts. As for the ATCM, i believe they mx-6 and probe have different units. I used the Mx-6 ATCM when i had the swap done. The probe comp may work but the mx-3 comp wont.

thanks for the reply. What modification has to be made, and how difficult was it for you to do?

I should be doing this swap in the not so distant future, just waiting on time really - although I am bolting it to a 97 PGT engine. I will post my findings when I get'r, or if I don't, anybody feel free to email me. My combo will be this: 97PGT engine, 97PGT ECU, 96 MX6 ATX, 96 MX6 TCM. As for GS tranny codes, there are two different codes for us, although the only apparent difference is a very slight case changing. Either tranny will bolt into an MX3. I know because I put one from one MX to the other, which had the different one. (that was worded kinda tetarded, but you get it, haha) As for tranny codes, I want to say the GS is an F4LA-EF (and I think the other is a GF) I noticed the two different codes when I was looking up tranny filters in a book at the parts store.. you may check there.

Oh yeah, and no, I'm pretty sure they're not geared the same. (2.5L ATX's vs. 1.8's) I wish one of these newfound 5spd ATX's on the high end stuff could bolt up for us, haha.

Thank you for your info. I still feel shaky about jumping into this swap. The car will be my daily driver and i dont want a tranny going stupid on. Luckily i have a little while before i have to do this, so maybe i can acquire a little more knowledge.

Found this thread digging for info on my swap, which I am finally doing, lol... If you happen to see this, did you ever complete your swap? I've run into wiring problems, though there aren't sposed to be any problems, lol.
