i recently bought an mx-3 and it doesnt seem to have the potential of being a fast street racer. the greastest thing about it is its handleing. I wantto do the 2.5l swap so i can do some rally racing but i need to know if im going to have to by a bigger tranny. If so does anybody know a relativly close price range? Also i want to see some mx-3s in action at a rally but cfant find any footage. if anybody has some let me know.

I don't know if you have an auto transmission or a manual gearbox, but i know for sure you can keep the stock manual with teh 2.5l swap, i did with mine. I know people suggest getting one from an mx-6 or 626 cause of its longer gears, and that pretty much all thats different. The Ford Probe has the Mazda 2.5l engine and a transmission identical to our mx-3 (4.338:1). For rally racing, i belive teh closer gear ratio of the stock mx-3 gearbox will be more ideal

2.5 swap it all just bolts straight up. no need for new tranny unless ur car is auto.
Ive seen 1 mx3 rally in australia and it was pretty cool to watch he had a 2.0ltr engine in it and turbo. It sounds awesome and the car really ripped **** up. He didnt win cause he had awd cars to compete against but non the less was pretty cool.
