Who has done a rear drum to disc brake conversion?
I am doing it now and want to know, how much of a difference there is to changing or not changing the master cylinder.
Also any others thoughts on the topic could be a help.

I was thinking of doing it simply for the durability of disks opposed to drums, however, after reading that e-brake often becomes stuck without constant adjusting, I decided that it wasn't worht it. But, here is where I found my info on it... it doesnt give a difinitive answer to your question, but I'm not sure if there is one. Some say you need it and others don't. Well, heres the link anyhow. here

u do need to use the 2 gs cables for the ebrake, the end is different.

the ebrake sticking thing, why would this effect me more than any gs? or it doesnt? like if i am in the same situtation as all gs mx3 then, ok.

i did get discs on, took the whole real assembly off a gs and bolted on mine, bled the 2 lines and i think it works. need to adjust the ebrake cables cause right now, i have to pull it all the way up and its not very effective. i did not change the master cylinder yet, but breaks do work, just have to push a little more on the pedal.

Rear Disc Brakes:

It would be possible to swap to the disc brake from a GS in place of the drums on RS. You will need the complete rear spindle assembly, wheel bearing assembly, rear calipers, rotors, flexible brake lines and park brake cable. In addition you will also need the bigger bore master brake cylinder and front because four wheel disc brakes requires more fluid pressure and volume to operate rear calipers than it does to operate drum brakes. Unless you are racing on a tight circuit course where you are on the brakes often there is little advantage to swapping to discs. The disc brake assembly add a lot of additional unsprung weight and do require much more maintenance as the park brake actuator level has a tendency to stick in the engaged position.

its been argued on the protege board that the disc brakes are inferior to teh drum brakes on the protege dx (same as mx3 rs).

The 90-91 proteges/323's had VERY LARGE rear drums that dont' come on the newer model. they were 9.3" as opposed to 7.9 like on the 92+ models.

After redoing the brakes on my 91 323, I must say, that car stops 10x better than my GS. I have new calipers & SS lines w/performance pads on my GS too. The 323 has crappy autozone pads.
