Rusty Door Frames...suggestions please

As the subject states - The black parts of my door frames (near the B-pillar) are pretty severely afflicted with rust. Fromwhat I see, this is a pretty common problem on these cars. Mine has popped up really quickly and in great amounts - so its not just some simple, cosmetic surface rust problem(which again, seems typical of not only our MX3's but all cars that use this type of door trim...)
The issue is, there seems to be little metal in that area, and I am afraid that if I take a sander to it, I will end up with nothing to fix...

Has anyone successfully battled this problem? If so, how? Your experiences would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

CRAP! Thanks for the input... as you can imagine, that was kinda what I feared...Was it very expensive? I imagine any time the terms "custom made" comes into play, it usually means "cost a lot"...

Mine look to be pretty eaten...I'm afraid I may have a similar thing in my future.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to help me out.
