I assume your using a transparent spray paint. The key is patience and very light coats. Set the taillights up next to each other and go all the way across both lights overlapping on both sides. Spray about 8-10" away and a very light coat. Wait for that to dry, then do another coat. So on and so forth. Don't get too hasty, if your working on them inside make sure you bring them out in the sun to see how dark they are. They will be much darker in the sun then inside. Obviously, make sure you mask off the edges. Just remember, LIGHT COATS is key.

Metal tinting spray for "anodized look" works great on plastic. Made by a company called VHT (I think) but i used this to get rid of the amber on my tails (they are all red now) looks great. Yes LIGHT COATS. Cannot stress this enough. And use an alcohol prep pad or similar to make sure they are clean, believe me you will notice if there was a dirty spot.
