Engine Surging

My MX3 SE 1.8L surges when it is cold. On start up it revs up to 2500 rpm, then drops off and then goes up again. Sometimes it will just stay between 1500 and 2500 RPM for about 2 minutes then it goes to normal idle and is fine. This only happens on initial start up. After that it is fine. No vacuum leaks, adjusted the idle, checked the rad for pressure and fluid. etc etc etc, could it be the EGR?????
Thanks in advance PM me with your help

The engine needs the high idle until it's warm; otherwise it would be a pain to drive.
But it should not surge upwards again once it drops down. It sounds like the idle air control valve is a bit sticky.

Is there anyway to unstick the idle air control valve? I have owned other MX3s and they didn't idle that high at start up, at least I didn't notice it
Thanks

You'd have to take the throttle body off and clean the little crevices with lots of carb cleaner.
