I have a 92' MX3 v6 1.8 and i cant pass the CA smog check. My car is doing a federal smog test, not a CA one (becuase its a non-CA car).
I've failed 3 times so far, and i keep failing on:
Ignition Timing, HC at the 15 and 25 mph, NO at 15mph.
HC
Max ave meas
15 124 31 221
25 98 20 127
NO
15 815 237 1259
I tried using the "guarentee to pass" stuff from Pep boys and what not, and still a no go.however it did help reduce my NO readings.
What should I do??????

Sounds like you may have some bad sensors. Start off by checking your ECU for stored codes (procedure in the V6 FAQ)

Have you messed with your cat, or the air/fuel mixture? Also, chek your O2 sensor.

Basic question since ya don't mention it, have you done a standard engine tune up before any of those tests?

I did change my oil, cleaned my air filter, pulled my intake manifold and cleaned it, used "gurantee to pass", checked for error codes (none).
The only thing different from stock is the air filter. I had better results using a after market filter than the stock air box. The exhaust system is complete stock, which I never touched.
anything else i should do??

Ya might try GTA fuel enhancer. You can check it out thru this link
http://www.apdinc.com/GTAfuel.html Guy who sells it lives in my town & I've been using all of his products for two years. GTA won't harm your engine, backed by plenty of testing and I've had friends use it to get past emmissions testing with excellent results. It was originally developed to reduce the flammability of jet fuel. The inventor discovered that in internal combustion engines, it also provides for a much more complete burn of the air/fuel mixture by reducing/eliminating the "wetting action" of the fuel mix on cylinder walls. One result is drastically reduced emmissions byproducts. Amazing stuff. I started using it after advancing my timing which then required premium grade higher octane fuel. With the GTA, I use regular grade gas & it only takes two ounces of GTA per tank. But, ck. the link out, do the reading and you be the judge.

Damn that is worse than my ze did you should check your timing needs to be set correctly. Change to lower octane gas and the car will automatically not advance the timing as far.

You said "The exhaust system is complete stock, which I never touched."
I would check your CAT. It's probably not doing its job.

Agreed. You be amazed with what a new cat can do.

Did you check/replace your O2 sensor when cleaning your manifold? This could alos be the problem...
