I have a pacesetter. It's just OK. The sound isn't great but not awful, the fit isn't great but not awful either. For $200 shipped you can't beat it. Overall though I wish I got something else. I think I'm going to have a custom built exhaust done next.

I am also looking for an exhaust system. I want something that sounds like stock or very close to stock. According to the V6 faq the mazdaspeed exhaust at corksport.com is suppose to add decent HP and sound stock but it is kinda pricey (600US). Anything cheaper that would give the same sound? Flowmaster or ractive muffler's with tip or do they end up sounding like some one is farting like most do?
Thanks!

if you go to any respectable exhaust place (not a chain like mr. muffler or thruway muffler) and tell them you'd like a performace muffler that is quiet then they will be able to accomodate that. It isnt a kit you buy but a custom setup. Here in this house we've had 3 exhaust systems done on cars one was very loud, the next was somewhat loud and the third sounded like stock until you reached higher RPMs but even then it wasnt much louder than stock. I'd suggest doing that.

I just recently bought a universal performance muffler from Megan racing. Specs for the muffler are 2 1/4 input with a 4 inch tip. It sounds beautiful! A nice deep toned sound, no farting at all. Gained me a decent amount of torque and HP and is not too loud. Just perfect with a custom cat back of 2 1/4 inch piping. Just a suggestion. I'm happy with mine.

pacesetters suck. Fitment is terrible, you'll end up spending another $200 in custom flanges and welding to get it to fit properly.
And on top of that, they are very rust-prone, and they sound raspy past 5000rpm...horrible sounding.
The only good part about them is they have been known to dyno the highest gains out of all the other designs out there, but IMHO its not worth losing the tuned sound of the K-series V6 just to gain an extra 2whp.
Get some hotshots or bosals.

Mnemonic, from MOCA, had a Pacesetter and it rusted out in about two months. In Georgia that should never have happened. He noticed it starting in a few weeks and called Pacesetter, they told him tough luck. I have a flowmaster exhaust on my ZE (headers, cat, 2.5 pipe) It sounds great untill 4k rpm then gets the most raspy sound that I have ever heard. So I would stay away from those two brands.
