onzlouk@aol.com" target="_blank[/email] Hi guys, the mazdas goin off the road for a while next week so that i can begin modifying it, i have ordered the chiltons manual plus a mx-6 manual to aid my progress, just a couple of questions though before i dive in and break anything!!!...Are there any major differences in a UK spec car that would prevent me doing a KL-ZE swap, i have emailed Ben at corksport and he says he can ship me an engine and my list of goodies, any opinions or help from aybody who has done the swap would be much appreciated! cheers........(Does the swap really make the MX that much faster?)

being a right hand drive ca you could probably get away with having the straight neck IM because the master cylinder is on the other side. As for the faster question the stock V6 is 130 hp and you're dropping in a 198 hp engine which is a whole 68 hp more so its more powerful you should feel the difference when you drive it.

Onzlo,
Try
JAS for the engine. I dont know where in England you are, but they are in Stowmarket, Suffolk. Should workout cheaper than Corksport as there would be much lower shiping costs.

Just out of curiosity,
What was your shopping list for the swop and how much did it come too by using JAS. I'm waiting untill my 1.8 runs into the ground then i'm well up for doing the swop.
Any info would be great

P,
I've not done the swap as yet, only looked into the cost. My car is an auto, so if i was to do the swap to a KLZE would need to get the gearbox swapped to a manual first. I was quoted an exchange price of £795 + delivery + vat. That was back in November last year, so may have changed since.

Jeremy,
You don't need to convert to MTX if you're happy with ATX. All JDM Millenias (Xedos 9/ Eunos 800) with KLZE are ATX. Maybe you could keep your existing transmission. Otherwise, you could get a KLZE complete with ATX, and use the ECU from an ATX KLZE with VAF (I think its KL36).

I see what you are saying Ian. I dont think the standard auto box would last long with 200hp pumping through it, and I would like to have the car as a manual. It's just a case of finding the time and spare money to do it.

ONZLO,
Are you getting a real KLZE ECU, or the Corksport reprogrammed unit? Most people who've reported on the board have not been happy with the reprogrammed one. Suggest you'd be happier with a real one from lazzyie.

Not to put a downer on all this onslo for all i know your related to the queen or sumfin.
but you got any real idea on how much all this is gonna cost + on top of that how much it'll cost to fit it?
I hope the 4000 you said was in UK pounds and that's just to get the stuff. does this include shipping cos shipping is mainly the biggest cost for getting stuff from the US. And you have to be aware that on most of this stuff the uk gov will charge around a third to half of the origional cost of the product for taxes! i know cos i been stung already a few times.
furthermore, I got a quote for a KLZE in the UK for £900 + i had to pick it up > no probs couple of hours drive. But i was gonna do the transplant with my da and worked out the costs of other stuff i needed and i would peg it over 2K to do the transplant right. I wouldn't just buy the KLZE and slap it in. SO if you can't do the drop yourself allow for a decent garage to do it and i would say they would charge around 1K to do it.
All i can say man is that if you have this much cash to blow all at once I'd save my money sell the mx3 and buy a nice freshly imported RX7 twin tubby fully modified for 6-8 K. Or push the boat out on a supra / skyline. The mx will be a bottomless pit for money and at the end of it all you'll have a car that's probably only worth £3000. and even at that u might struggle to sell it cos for under 25's the mx with a klze will be uninsurable- well for most people. and anyone who's over 25 buys a scooby lol...
anyways you can tell i had this dream also but i decided this was not the way to go. I'm just gonna love my mx for what it is and i know that one day she will go the girlfriend when i can afford something with a faster engine. So gud luck man and keep us posted will be interesting if you do it! i'd love to see an mx beat a scooby!
