Which ecu should I buy? Does it make a difference if i have the straight neck KLZE or the curved neck manifold? Thanks.

KL-31 = 5speed model KLZE ecu
KL-36 = automatic model KLZE ECU.

I"m using a KL36, works good, but my motor is also from an automatic car.

I don't know if the ecu's tuning is any different. I do know that the KL36 has extra circuitry for the auto tranny brain or whatever it is called. PPL on probetalk believe they are "identical in every way" But until I see some kind of fuel curve maps that someone pulls off each, I won't believe it.

On lots of cars, the automatic ECU's are tuned less agressively to prolong the life of the tranny and to prevent warranty claims....so i wouldn't be surprised if it was detuned a little bit.

Funny thing that both have same Mazda part number. May be it is a year to year variation. Some say that both 5spd and Auto cars could come with either. Not sure on the tuning thing though.

the mx6 had a klze in europe I believe...that would explain the 5spd

The European MX-6s have KLDE engines. The KLZE is only sold to the Japanese Domestic Market. However, I understand that JDM MX-6s were available with MTX - that may apply to 626s as well.

Millenias are ATX only, but they are not the sole source of KLZEs.

Well, i've heard a couple of people that the kl31 is for the mtx. Maybe the kl36 will work as well, i don't know but, I'm going with the kl31. Thanks guys.

Hmm... my engine came out of 1995 Eunos 800 with curved neck manifold and had MTX flywheel on it. I guess in Japan anything is possible.

I expect that flywheel was fitted after the engine was removed from the 800.

The manual tranny from Mazda6 V6 comes from some japanese eunos 800 5 speed.

I talked with a guy in australia with a KLZE Baja . He as bought a jdm Mx-6 front clip (manual). and i asked them for the ecu number and it shows KL36.

Long neck IM, KL31 Cams.

hrmm that could also be it. Guys on PT say that the kl36 is atx and kl31 is for mtx, but hell, maybe it has to do with which camshafts your motor has.

HOpefully this isn't the case, because I have the long-neck KL31 version, and am running a kl36 ecu :(

Long neck KL31 version ? You have a curved neck in your pics.

Don't believe all the things you see on PT ...

The cams doesn't make influence on ecu no.
