ECU upgrade experiences?

Does anyone have first hand experience with any of the available ECU chip upgrades? (Jet / Superchips / Powerchip / etc...) I'd like to do the KL-03 swap but the budget just won't allow it. A 10% performance boost for ~$300 seems very reasonable, but...

Just dont go shopping on Ebay... you'll pay $50 bucks for a resistor and $150 for a plastic turbo.

my own experience is that if you drive hard a lot you'll shorten the lifespan of the engine significantly if you use this for more power, but if you do other mods to the engine and get it mapped to run a good curve it'll lengthen the lifespan
