heool, i think my shifter (where it goes through the floor) came out, and is sitting on the exhaust system. i pulled it back up once already, but i think it fell again. how can i keep this from happening? it isnt cool. i acually gets really hot after a while. not enough to really do damage but hot enough to be uncomfortable to hold. i have a metal shifter knob. thanks for any help

hey its a piece that goes to the tranny its suppost to support the shifter usually breaks after some time. it costs 80 bucks to get it new at mazda. its a long stick with a plate at the end of it and it goes right under the shifter.

He is right. When I was taking out my tranny I notcied mine was almost completely rusted thru. So maybe that is what happened to you. Check it out, you will notice it when you go under the car. It is right beside the shift linkage.

Hey do you have a short shifter in, if so what kind, it could be that your C-clip isn't holding, or it could be that the bolts feel off the plate that holds the stock shifter and its bushings in place causing it to drop down.

my shifter fell thru when i was doing my ZE swap. its been like that since august 2002, and yes its annoying but it does keep people from driving my car. i picked up a replacement shifter assembly from a junk yard for 10 bucks like 2 weeks after the knuckle fell through, but i havent put it in yet... cause im lazy<p>

It happened to me too is the rubber bushing that hold the shifter, right now mine is holding up with a wire wraped around plus a lot of silicone, next time a will take it out and take it to have it fix with a new bushing of poliurethane I´ll bet it´ll hold better.

That exact thing happened to me also the 2nd day i bought my car. I got my friends dad to put 2 spot welds to hold the shifter in place. It has been about 2 weeks now and i havent had any problems. I have been shifting super-slow just incase those welds break. Whatever works right...
