Diagnostic Box Pins

Hi,<p>I have a 1996 MX-3 GS. My CEL came on yesterday driving home from work. I checked the V6 FAQ forum and printed off the instructions for jumping pins 10 and GND. However, the picture of the pins in the diagnostic box did not show up in the post. I checked the inside cover of the box for labeling, but found not. Could someone let me know what the correct pins to jump?<p>Thanks,

Now I read somewhere that you can't pull the codes for OBDII as you can for OBDI; you have to use an electronic code reader.<p>I'd be glad to have this confirmed or otherwise; mine's a '97 so it applies to me too.

you cannot read your codes yourself on your OBDII car. You can only do it on OBDI. You will need a special tool/scanner, not sure what it's called.

Sounds like confirmation!<p>My Chilterns says OBDII cars have a second diagnostic connector just under the driver's side of the dashboard, near the center console. I can't find it in mine, but its RHD, so maybe its somewhere else. Anyway, it says "models equipped with the data link connector-2 must use an OBDII compliant scanner or test equipment."

Slighty, could you please do me a favour - see if you can find the second connector, to confirm what the book says?

As far as I know that connector should be inside the car, so that computer can be connected to it. Somewhere underneath the panels, where the fuse box is. And it should be on the drivers side...

I also have a '96 gs and could not pull the codes from the diag. box from under the hood, the light just stayed on. The shorting out the two pins did not work. Look like you'll need to see mazada!<p>Unless you buy your own reader @ $350 (i think)<p>If anyone know how to make your own reader let me know!

Well, the car has been running fine, same as before the light came on. I'm guessing it is nothing too serious....hopefully!!

IanL, I had the car scanned today. The guy at the shop started on the driver's side under the dash. He couldn't find it there and proceeded to the passenger side. He eventually found it in back of the center console but closer to the passenger side of the car.<p>MX-3 wasn't listed in scanner but he was able to pull the codes anyways. Turned out it was a "catalytic convertor below threshold value". He cleared the code, I started the car, the CEL stayed off. I paid him $51.00 for 5 minutes work and hit the road!
