92 V6 still having problems

Hi all, I just wanted to see if there were any other suggestions for a problem I am having with my 92 V6 MX-3. We recently had to replace the motor in it, and even though my dad paid for it, he is a scrooge so he didn't go for the brand new motor for $300 more than the refurbed motor. We are having problems with the idle. It usually doesn't want to keep running if you are idling, which means it can't be driven in my area, because everything is on the surface streets. We tried checking the fuel/air mixture and tuning that to no avail. The shop that did the motor replacement said the engine should be running fine, but every time we get it home it still has the same problem. If anyone can give me some inexpensive ideas on how I might go about correcting this problem I would appreciate it.
P.S. It can't drive anyway, so work that my brother can take a few weeks to do is ok too. I just need inexpensive ideas cause my dad is stingy and won't give my mom any money. Thanks

Sorry not sure what could be the problem, but where did you get the engine and how much did you pay?

I think it was somewhere along the lines of $2500 (I could be very wrong) but I got it in VA-USA from a shop that I know the owners of.

Wow you should grab your ankles because you got bent over. You could have upgraded to a klde or klze for that price.

Didn't want to. My mother is driving it not me. She doesn't need some high/moderate performance engine, and I have a Z28 now so it makes no difference to me.

You need to be more specific in explaining your problem. Look under V6 FAQ, I think someone posted a link to Rick's page which has the step for setting the TPS.

Well i guess that somewhat makes sense, but you should have at leat put a klde in there for the heck of it. Nothing wrong with having a little bit more power
:p Wish i could help you on your problem, but it could be sooo many different things! On these new fancy schmancy fuel injected cars alot of times eradic idles are caused by vaccum problems amd problems with the fuel delivery system. Good luck!

you paid $2500 for a refurbed k8? WTH?!??
first you can get a new k8 from mazda for 1960 + shipping which shipping is like 175. and second they would install and fix all the tuning issues.
you need to call the company and tell them you recieved a 'faulty' product. (NOT sure wheter or not it is unless i could check the engine) and ask if there is anyway you could get either another engine or cash back.

$2500 including install. And considering I'm a female with no access to any engine transfer equipment I had no other choice. That price was the best quoted in the Hampton Roads area for engine and install charges.

Your injectors came with the new engine or were the ones that you already had? The first thing I would do is to check that everything is allright ( fuel pressure, injector´s clogging, vacuum leaks, air bypass valve, Vacuum diagrams ( I had problems on my car when I bought it as the previous owner had swapped the engine for other K8 and had all the vacuum diagram messed up!It didn´t run fine and had some bogging) With the help of the online workshop manual you can check a lot of systems of your car without throwing no money at all! If you can´t found it is hosted on Mx-3.com, in the upper left column.
Good luck!
[ June 07, 2003: Message edited by: BATTOSAI ]

I would first check the spark plug wires. I was driving a V5 for months and wondered what the problems were (bad mileage, i was slower than a bus)
Further I would check that big rubber pipeing thing that is mount between massairflow sensor and that enginge thing (excuse my english). My rubber pipe thingy had many cracks, so my massairflow sensor didn´t work correct. That lead to idling problems. RPM went up and down while idling. In the end my engine even stopped running while I was driving (no gas-->engine off) So I had to have my foot on the gas pedal all time!!! That was damn dangerous! It took me many days finding that cracked rubber pipe eventhough its the first thing you see when you look under your hood.
