custom air intake BOX

I have scanned tons and tons of threads about custom air intakes (CAI). I am trying to put together a ram-air type kit through one of the side vents in my MS bumper. I have a cone filter. I cleared all teh hosses and tanks from the drivers-side fender area, so I have a clean hole. I vut the hole in the metal going towards the bumper. I was thinking about some sort of box that I could use to seal the filter into the kit, or I would lose the ram-air type qualities. Any suggestions on how to make one that I could get in and change the filter? I have some ideas. If they work out, I'll post pics, but I don't see them working well...... thanks!

I'm piping it to the filter. Well, the filter needs some sort of enclosure. The pipe will run from the bumper, through the inside fender, up to where the coolant reservoir was, and into some sort of box that my cone filter is in. Then through the appropriate sensor and into the TB. Also curious...... My OEM pipe that ran from the top of the bumper to the OEM airbox had the hook for my hood-support. Where am I gonna put it now?? Thanks.

Get the Ractive filter with the heat shield. That is exactly what you are talking about. Here is a link.<p>http://shop.store.yahoo.com/rodi/heatshielfil.html

AWESOME! Do you happen to know how wide the intake is? I am curious cause of the piping I just got through running. Kinda wanna make shure it will snug on there....... lol Thanks a lot. It's not even that expensive, either......

Ya cheap, my whole CAI was like 40 bucks. I have a few pictures of the finished thing if you want to take a look. They are near the bottom of this page.<p>http://www.msu.edu/~leonar40/Car.html<p>The inlet to the MAF is the standard 3". The heat shield opening is more like 4". It just so happened that it fit exactly with the piping material that I used for the down pipe. You will see what I mean. :-)

You can do the same thing with the PRM intake and it will look a little better (no offence) since you wont be able to see the drier vent hose under the hood.

Just drill out the rivots in the hood mount bracket to remove it from the air intake tube and remount it to the frame of the car with a screw.

Sure thing, yes I know that the PRM intake looks better, but it's also $180 vs. $40 for basically the same thing. Plus it's kinda cool having a custom one, it's something to talk about instead of just having the normal one you can buy right off the shelf. :-)
