Helo,
I drive a MX3 1.8l V6 for a year now and eversince I had it it has a very loud metal knocking from (I´m not too sure) the back right cylinder. I´m not sure if it´s the friction gear spring because people tell it´s goes away when over 2000 rpm. In fact my knocking is always to be heard. The MX3 is now about 8 years old and has only 51000 km on it (I swear). Oil changing was at 48000 km 5w30 full synthetic.
Please help me out, tell me what to check and what to remove and how to remove to do so. Since I´m always low on money I will have to fix by my own and since I even have less time then money please don´t fool me around.

Just a guess, but it could be a hydraulic lash adjuster (HLA).

Thanks for your help guys. I´ve been to the local mazda dealer this morning. According to him it´s the friction gear and not (thank god)valves or something. Lots of thanks to Steve Zytariuk, too, who experienced the same probs I have and helped me.
Still I´m looking for Leska´s howto to change friction gear spring that was posted here by david coleman. The version here has broken links to the pictures wich are absolutely necessary to me. Also the the version on pt.com has broken links. If some of you happen to have the files on the computer please mail me ABao@freenet.de
THANKS to all UBB members
