You always hear about the klde, and klze..well i was lookin around corksport.com and found this....2.0 V6 (KF-ZE) w/approx 165 hp..what the heck is this from?? Has anyone actually done this swap that is on this board?? If so, id like to hear about it...it would be a nice little boost of power for much less than the klze swap...sure wouldnt be quite as fast, but it'd be better than the 1.8!!!

why not buy a klde and get the same hp for like $500-600 from a junkyard. There is one guy and he said it wasn't worth it. He shoulda done the klze swap.

After some thorough, 10 minute, searching I've found the following
Thank David for, "The 323F / Lantis has a KFZE. 2.0L, 170hp V6. Very cool engine, but pretty rare, and therefore more expensive than its larger, more powerful cousin; the 2.5L 200hp KLZE.
Though a KF powered MX-3 would be very unique, and probably run as quick or quicker than a KL03-powered MX-3..."
That is from way back in the summer of 2001

And this was taken from another post in which someone confused their engine with another. Zoso124, the sixth member, answered the problem with the following, "First there is only one style of K8. I don't know how or why Mazda would move the oil filter. Do us a favor and take a pic from up above then will be able to give you an answer.
Secondly, Mazda NEVER EVER made a KL-08,
K8=1.8L
KF=2.0L
KL=2.5L
KL-03=No such thing
add a -ZE to those and you have J-spec.
ex. K8-ZE, KF-ZE, KL-ZE"
God I need to learn how to use the quote function

Thank you, finally someone that has some intelligent info to add...!!! But i read that you said "add a ze, and you have a J-spec.."..then u listed the k series engines, and i saw k-8 on there...is there such an animal as a k8ze?? Ive never heard of it...

Of course, thats the uninhibited japanese version of the K8. I believe the differences are... Different intake manifold (greater flow), very slightly more aggressive cam profile (not by much), and the ECU. All of that, plus higher octane, create only 10-12+hp over its american counterpart.
Basically in engine codes, add ZE to the end of a K-series and you're talking about the japanese version.

hey smart guy...i did search.. If you run a search for the kfze, you get like 6 different threads..and the only one that was half way decent was confusing...it was mentioning both the kfze and k8ze...I guess thats what you get when you get a bunch of people who think they know about certain vehicles just by reading others posts..its almost like blind leading the blind...which its why searching is about 50 percent unreliable..its better to be in contact with the people that actually have experience, rather than read threads about people who get all of their knowledge from others who dont know shi*T!!

Which is NOTHING. Read 'em all in about five minutes. Hy300 didn't state anything that you couldn't have picked up in those threads.
Hey Hy300! Have you actually touched a KF engine? Or did you pick this info up by reading other's threads?

Nope, but I'd be interested in seeing some pictures of the intake manifold and heads.
I think MX3Man83 does make a point. It is valuable to talk to people with experience. However, I think that the search function is far more effective than waiting for everyone with knowledge about a certain topic to reply to a question.
There will be topics that are such common knowledge around here that there will be numerous valuable posts if you use the search function. Then there are questions that are vague and go unanswered. When I searched for "KF" I recieved over two dozen possibilities. However I only needed two of these to properly answer the question. A lot of that seems useless.

I believe someone once thought they had a KF engine because their particular vehicle was once a dealer's display model. They saw some pictures of a K8 engine and thought they had a different engine all together.
Personally, I thought it was fishy, all K series share part numbers and they were claiming they needed different parts to service.

It's a 2.0 liter and was not exported to the US.
Like Hy300 said, add a "ZE" to any of the standard K series engine prefixes to get the JDM version of the engine, e.g., K8-ZE and KF-ZE, 1.8 liter and 2.0 liter versions, respectively.

I was only looking at a 2.0 V6 KFZE today in an Irish 626, thinking about putting it in my mx instead of a KL it'll be at least half the price
