Hi ... i just got an intake for my car from ebay. but when i got it, the adaptor is a square one, which doesnt fit to the ball-shaped thing (my friend says its air senser) that orginally connects to the air filter. so i just force the intake itself to fit onto that sensor thing without any adaptor or anything ... does any1 know if the adaptor is supposed to be square and how do i put it on? or there is another way to have the intake on?
also .. when i got my car 2 mths ago, i could go up to 110 mph with ~4300 rpm, but i can hear the engine's uncomfy noise. now when i drive on the highway again, i cant get higher than 4000 rpm anymore ... the top speed is like 95 mph with 3800 rpm (its like half way between 3500 - 4000 ). the only thing that changed after i bought the car is that the ignition wire at the back of the engine is loose(as if i standing in front of the car, its located at the left and the back of the engine). i also can smells the oil when i start the car. anyone may have a clue to it ..?
please answer my Qs.. i m at chicago for these 2 days and i can get tools or friends to help me fix them ... once i got back to school i wont have time nor there will be any materials to work on my car ...
thanks a lot !!!

Welcome. You need to unscrew the old air box from the air sensor and get a new oring to put on the air sensor then just carefully tighten the filter on. As for the leaking of oil check your spark plugs, if the oil is on the plug boot then it is your valve cover gaskets, if its on the threads of the plug it self it is probably a head gasket. Check your oil to see if it is milky looking and your coolant to see if it is brown. These are both indicators of if a head gasket is blown.

by chance
as far as the filter you got. the square adapter is for the 4 banger. take the air box out and pop the cone on the end of the vaf (the ball-shaped thing). if you want do a seach on this site for a homemade intake

Well i hope you fixed the loose spark plug wire because that will definately cause drivability problems. Check if your rear valve cover is leaking. It cost me $26 for the gasket and instead of replacing the intake manifold gaskets when i took it off, i installed a set of phenolic spacers from outlaw engineering and did some port matching on the intake manifold. The whole project took maybe 5 hours.
