So you got a TICKING sound from your V6 engine eh? (Chec

I had a 'ticking' sound coming from my 92' mx-3 V6 engine for a good 2 months (It was driving me nuts!). After doing hours upon hours of research on this issue, I finally came to the conclusion that it must be the 'lifters' making the ticking sound.
Almost everyone on the mx-3.com forums (including local mechanics) kept saying "It's your lifters, It's your lifters".
Finally i bit the bullet and decided to take it into a authorized mazda dealership for them to look at it.....It had NOTHING to do with the lifters what-so-ever.
Here is the recipt. Turns out it was something to do with the cams being loose or something :(
NOTE: Since my car was already in the shop, I got them to do an engine flush and throw in new intake hose because mine was ripped a bit.
Image
[ March 26, 2002: Message edited by: zytariuk ]

Ouch. So, do you still have a ticking noise? You could have done your gaskets yourself like I did, saving a few hundred bucks. I hope it all worked for you.

And you just spent enough to buy a KLZE engine that would also not tick, but have 70 more HP than your current engine. Yet another reason why fixing K8's doesn't make sense when you can buy an entirely new engine for under 1500USD.

Oh! Check this out. It's from consumerguide.com...
Engine noise: A problem with the camshaft friction gear causes a metallic tapping noise. (1992-94)

- 1500USD is 2,381.86 Canadian (This is for the engine block alone). So just think guys...I would only have to spend double the amount i paid to get the K8 engine repaired to drop in a new KL-ZE engine block! Then.....
- Installation would be about $700 - $1000 Canadian.
- Misc. seals and s--- $100.00 Canadian.
- New clutch that would be able to handle a KL-ZE engine. Not sure on how much this would run...
See where im going? Apparently there is a place in Toronto that will do a KL-ZE engine swap for $3000.00 Canadian. However, i don't have 3k to spend on an engine right now.
Don't get my wrong...if my mx-3 body is still in good shape when i come out of college (2003) i'll be dropping in a KL-ZE engine :D.
[ March 27, 2002: Message edited by: zytariuk ]

That place near Toronto is called A-spec.
(a-spec.ca) I know exactly what your talking about. I'm just keeping my tired old 1.8 running until I can afford the transplant, but I'm still playing around with a few mods on it.

Whoot! ya. I could see if somone had like 200,000km+ on their engine to do a KL-ZE but when you only have 120,000km on your engine...i don't think it's worth it at this stage in the game...
