Ok, dropped my flywheel off to be lightened the other day and the shop has some reservations. They wanted to know about the 9 blocks on the back. They didn't really know what if they were nessecary for ignition or anything like that or if they could be removed. Everyone else who has had it lightened to 13 lbs or so, did you just have it taken off of the back side? And what are those blocks for if anything? Thanks so much!
I am lightening a MX-3 V6 flywheel btw.

They were aprehensive about removing so much material (I said goto 13 lbs which I was told was the minimum) because it is a cast flywheel and they can break when/if you remove too much material. This is a very reputable shop, they build a lot of racing engines... so they know what they are doing.

Hi Walter, glad you received the flywheel.
I'm not sure either exactly what needs to be shaved and what shouldn't, but here's a before and after pic that shows the MX-3 flywheel shaved from 17lbs to 13.5lbs:
http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Down ... dfw.jpg
Maybe you could show this to your shop? Hope it helps a little!

quote:
Originally posted by RITWalter:
Ok, dropped my flywheel off to be lightened the other day and the shop has some reservations.
