Does anyone know for sure which of the MX-3/30x/presso/AZ3's were equipped with a factory LSD and what the specs of the LSD were?
------------------
David Coleman- Moderator
1993 Mazda MX-3 GS Special Edition
Why get clear tail lights when only Geo Metros are gonna see them?

I'll break silence-
Sorry I have no idea which models have an LSD - but I can tell you I have bought a G25 V6 box, with an LSD - looks like an early 90's tranny cos of the wear on it - bolts right in like a normal tranny, but you need new driveshafts cos the right hand one with the intermediate shaft is too short and the other one with the circlip doesn't "circlip" in there ??? Image I'm about to unravel more of the mystery today when I visit my mazda spares place today

No there's no LSD for the four cylinder - but let me tell you having one is the best thing - I just got my car back on the road after 2 months yesterday (converted from AUTO to manual) after weeks of problems. The shop I bought the gearbox from sold me an LSD one by mistake. Here's what's different - externally they (G25's with and without LSD) are almost identical but when installed, the right hand intermediate shaft sits out of the diff by about an inch (too short) as well as that, the splines on the driveshafts need to be the biggest one's that Mazda makes - hence grunty driveshafts - everything else is exactly the same - oh yeh and the gear selector connection will touch the rear engine mount if it's not an LSD specific selector -
I did a rather tasty 0-100 run the other day - revved up to 5500 RPM and dumped the clutch- it grabbed and took off with no wheel spin - NICE! - (tyres are champiro GT-radial 205/55R15's)
Any more info..... just ask - oh yeh the gearbox only set me back about NZ$700 - and it's in superb condition - no wear that I could see!
catcha's -
PS next installment..... the 2.5l engine swap MUHAHAHAHAH!

You don't think you could find out how much the LSD box and axles are for me could ya?
I'd be interested in nabbing one of these if I could get the correctly splined axles as well.
Alot cheaper than the $1300USD for the Mazdaspeed/Quaife unit!
------------------
David Coleman- Moderator
1993 Mazda MX-3 GS Special Edition
Why get clear tail lights when only Geo Metros are gonna see them?

Does anyone have a shop manual for the LSD equipped tranny? I'd love to get a scan of the page or two that has diagrams for servicing that differential.
