In-car MP3 computer system and more...

Hey All,
I owned a 1992 Blaze Red MX-3 GS back in the day, and had installed a large stereo/computer system into it. I had also made a website for it... MP3Guy.net, but when the car was broken into and everything was stolen, I let the site registration lapse. I have now archived that old site on my new site for you to get ideas and such. If you have any questions, feel free to email me.
Roger (mp3@CapitalAudi.com)
P.S. Some of the external links on the website will not work due to them being about 3 years old.
MP3Guy.net
Image

that is awesome. I know there are a few on here that are going to be installing a computer in there car, and your site will give them plenty of tips.

The LCD Screen is a 5.6" Pioneer AVD-505... as listed on the site... It's the only thing left from the stereo, since it's detachable... Haven't decided what to do with it... Any offers?

quote:
Originally posted by Nd4SpdSe:

Well its definitely custom, but I would think that a small laptop would be the way to go. You could detach the screen and extend the wires and decrese the space by a third. A nice laptop could can be purchased on ebay for nearly nothing now a days.

Unless you know EXACTLY what you are doing, i recommend stay away from that idea.
Besides, the cables for the lcd are small and wont widthstand any tension, delicate and hard to work with, and who know the side effects of extending a wire a few metres that is usually no more than an inch long.
As for performance of a cheep laptop, it depends on what you are doing. Me i like good performance and upgradability, i've changed the video, sound, hard drive, cd, cpu and memory in the 5 months that its been in my car, i upgrade and move parts around
besides, can an El Cheepo laptop do this:
