ok guys, how do i set up password on win98 so nobody can use my comp? Im tired of everyone and their kids using mine and have bunch of spyware on it and messing with it

Once you have a password set up, you can "activate" it when leaving your puter unattended by either having your screensaver prompt for a password when returning to use the puter, or press Ctrl, Alt, Del simultaneously and select the button that says "lock computer". Lock Windows 98? Not possible. Go with Windows 2000 or XP to have any of that ability.

Been awhile since I used 98 but can't the screensaver at least be PW protected...?

1. From Start menu, click Settings, then Control Panel.

2. Double-click on Display. A window will open.

3. Click on the Screen Saver tab.

4. After ensuring that a screen saver is selected in the screen saver box, click to place a dot in the small box beside Password Protect Your Screen Saver.

5. Click on Change. A window will open.

6. Enter the password that you want to use.

7. Enter it again to confirm it.

8. Click OK to leave the password window, then click OK again to apply your settings.

Yes but if they wanted to get on the computer that bad they could just manualy shut off the power then turn it back on and then they can get on without the screen savor password.

1. When you start the computer to enter Setup press Control-Alt-Enter together at the same time.

2. In setup press Alt-P to change to the next page.

3. Use the down arrow to get to system password. then push the right arrow key.

4. Enter your password

5. Retype your password to verify.

6. It will say it is Enabled

7. Press Alt-B to reboot & you are all set.

its windows 98SE, sorry forgot to mention it

Setup should still be similar to 98. Just use F2 button to get to setup. Once you are in setup it tells you which keys to push at the bottom of the screen.

Just setup a BIOS password.

Yes It will work!!!

It will lock your computer right from the start. The first thing that will pop up when you start your computer is the password. It won't go anyfurther until the password is entered. It will even let you know when someone tried to get into it. With 3 unsuccessful attempts at the password Windows will shut down.

I just did this with our secretary's computer here at work. She was having problems with people getting into it & deleting stuff, spam mail, porn and whatever else.

pressing ctrl+alt+enter doesnt work, but ctrl+alt+delete works to enter setup, ive entered administrator password and use password, still doesnt work, something I did wrong.

What brand of computer do you have? (Gateway, Dell or?)

well sorry I know alot about dell & gateway, but have no clue how an emachine is setup?
