B6T, BPT, BP???

Like it says, Should I turbo my B6 or go BP or all out with the bpt? I don't want to go to a 6cyl. Which is easiest, which is most practical, which is cheapest? My B6 has 100,000 miles on it and im not sure if it will hold up to the turbo. I no the n/a BP is less hp, but it seems like the easiest swap. I have read tons of posts and im still not sure which avenue to go. BTW I will most likely be doing the swap myself.

First you have to assess your requirements. Is this a daily driver or a track car? Which matters more, power or gas milage? Do you care how hard it will be to pass emissions?

In what shape is your current engine? Have you religiously changed the oil on time (and did the previous owner)? Any known problems with it?

There is a wealth of knowlege for the BP swap here on this forum. Which should make the installation process easier for you.

As for the BPT I believe it would be the same installation proceedure, the only difference would be the price difference between the two.

I personally am going to turbo my SOHC because I just put in an exchange motor about a month ago.

I really don't think this is a factor here. I don't believe swaping to a BP or a BPT would qualify as being a tack car. Look at the numerous people who have done it here.

Now if he was talking about rebuilding all forged, special parts yada, yada....Then yes I would agree.

BP+Turbo=good fun. or so i've heard.
if i were you and wanted the least amount of downtime with the car i would swap in a healthy (good compression, low miles etc.) BP. Get all the bugs worked out.. then later on turbo it. that way there isnt a huge amount of money needed up front and you can put together i nice turbo set-up while still enjoying a BP powered mx-3 (which run pretty good IMO).

Well, it might be a factor if he wants it smogged. I just did a BP swap (totally rebuilt it first), and now I'm finding out it is going to be hard to get it smogged here in California. Good thing I just smogged it with the old engine first.

Also, it is a factor to consider when deciding how radical you are going to go. Racing cams are good for the race track, but they suck in stop and go driving. You can get more power out of a BP without getting radical.

I'm just suggesting that he think clearly about what he wants to do with the car before dumping that kind of money/time into it.

Lastly, "daily driver" matters if you are like me and drive 80 miles/day round trip for work. My gas bill is going to go up some, but it is so much nicer (stronger and quieter) when going over the mountain pass.

I was basically reacting to his request for advice when we know nothing about what he is trying to accomplish.

well first off im the second owner of the car. The previous owner bought it off the showroom floor and they maintained it extremely well other than the interior and body. I have a huge stack of repair reciepts since it was new, so i'd say its a healthy motor despite having 100000 miles on it. Just your typical idle problems and crappy low-end torque. It will be a daily driver, so down time will be a bit of an issue, but I should be able to borrow a car from my girls' parrents (they have like 5 or 6). As far as emmissions goes that all depends on what how tough they are in Tampa Florida, because even if I do this before moving or after thats the next smog test I will have to pass. Cost ofcorse is an issue, but im willing to put some bucks into this thing cause i love it so much. I'm mostly looking for some power, but with driveability being the biggest issue. I love going to the track, but I wouldn't be content with this baby only as a weekend warrior. Cars are made to be driven! Practical, but ballzy I guess is what im going for. With those ?'s answered, keep posting. I appreciate all the help :driver:

I love N/A engines myself... And I will probably be doing a BP swap. My opinion would be, go with an N/A BP. They are very nice engines, and if you ever want to turbo it LATER, it's entirely possible.

Infact, if you buy a BP, and custom turbocharge it, you will have more power than if you get the BP-T.

Ofcourse you can always get a BP-T and tune it as well. ;)

thus the reason im the BP route.. and becuase of less down time. right now shes my daily, but, im hopin by end of next fall.... she'll be my summer toy
