it reads exhaust gas and sends a signal to the ecu that tells how rich or how lean the car is running. if its bad or starts to go bad your car will run in a dummy mode. your check engine light will come on and youll get really crappy gas milage. if you get an air fuel ratio gauge you will be able to tell if its going bad or already is. and you get cool little flashing lights and a new gauge for your interior.
