I really really wanted to cash the check I got and keep the money - but i dont think it would have done anything, was a phony check most likely. I'll learn how to rip off the people trying to rip me off some day. It will start when I catch anyone who damages my car from an internal camera system I will be creating...muhaha.

The money isn't legit, I'm sure. Its got to be dirty in some way. If you're caught with a phoney bill, you're SOL. If you take a payment in fake 100's, you can get dinged for having the bad cash. Its a terrible and mean system. So, I think cashing that cheque would only screw you more than them.

Cameras and solid proof are satisfying :)

We have a rant thread, fail thread, but where's the "Score!" thread?

Hey Ryan,

I was looking and there are ads even in AutoTrader. Here's 2 from the same person, she's also a known scammer!
The car is in immaculate condition and has been garaged since purchase. It has never been smoked in.Please don't try to contact my by phone because momentary is disconnected if you have any queries regarding this car please contact me via email: Veronica.Miela@gmail.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Factory fitted moon roof. Bluetooth, front and rear parking sensorsThe car has been garaged at night (at home) and during the day (at work). So paint etc is in fine condition. It has had no accidents and is pristine in almost all respects pretty much all over. Thanks for your attention! Please feel free to contact me for more information on my email Veronica.Miela@gmail.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; . I always return messages. 5194851700
The number is local, but the price was just stupid low! I got a bad feeling from the "my phone is disconnect" but yet she can "always return messages". I looked up her e-mail and not only found out she's a scammer, but other autotrader listing for other cars, with the same price, under her e-mail.

Some threads about it:

Yeah, now that I know what I'm looking for, its everywhere. Scary how blind I/people can be.

Ebay knows, its somewhere in the depths of their pages upon pages of fine print. Just not making a fuss out of it.

Kinda sad that the buyer has to watch their back on everything :(

I would treat these like criminals. Identities can change, but its methods that are always similar, its what gives them away. Just a tiny little red flag and you MUST jump head first into research for ANYTHING similar. Thats my new method for online purchases... And make it personal.

I had to deal with one of these when I was buying an ATV a while back. Looking back at it the seller's story was just ridiculous and I can't believe I didn't realize it earlier. It was on Toronto Kijiji, but the seller said it was located somewhere in Halifax, ready to be shipped out in a crate. He said that he was working in an offshore oil rig somewhere around Scotland :? and that he didn't need it anymore. I thought it was legit because he had some nice pictures and a picture of an actual VIN number. So then he directed me toward an escrow site, I browsed through it for a bit and found a bunch of spelling and grammar mistakes, so I copy and pasted a random passage into google and found at least 20 other sites with the exact same writing, mistakes an all, with just different pictures and slightly different layouts. And just for the hell of it, I ran a WHOIS on the site, the site said the company was in business for over 20 years, I found that the domain was registered 2 days before the ad went up.

Jealousy causes even the greater of people to cling to childish emotions and actions. I've encountered that a lot too. They get paid too little to care. And you come in saying that the laptop you bought just came out in another colour, or you decided that you wanted a bigger air conditioner, so on and so forth..... Or (no biggottry intended) the hudderites come in with clothing they bought at garage sales wanting a full refund, with 3 bags of clothes and toys. I think if I worked there I would be the same way too actually. It's funny how in one post my regard to them has changed hahaha!

I've never had any problems with walmart returns, you can return pretty much anything because they just don't care. My friend once returned a broken cd player a year after he bought it, without the box or anything, just a receipt.

Politics = Greed. Society is retarded. Sometimes I think I'd rather live in the remote wilderness eating berries and such, than to live in this a-- backwards world we live in. Sigh. That's all I have.

RANT #1

I hate Vista and/or HP.

-On startup, it opens almost FIFTY processes, averaging 5-10K EACH. What the heck is "Mediasmart Resident TV program"? and why does it need 10 megs of my memory?

-Mechanically, my laptop is 3 months old, and the left click is loose and falling off, along with the rubber pad over the webcam for when it closes.

-My quicklaunch buttons do not always work, and when they do, the lights don't change to match (mute symbol does not illuminate)

-I get unacceptable occurances of "not responding" programs. Simple ones, like IE, or Itunes.

-If I change the angle of the screen, I get a "faster if in USB 2.0" notice and my webcam will die untill I restart. This pisses me off, I use my webcam a lot, and I hate when I readjust my lazy butt, change the screen so I can see again, and then I have to restart. Curse you!

-If I plug in headphones, I have to restart the application otherwise it continues to play from speakers. Actually, works the other way around too. Unplug headphones, and have to restart app to get sound out of speakers again.

-I cannot set up wireless networking. I simply cannot find other computers. My mother's Toshiba (Vista) can, but mine cannot. I have read all the support, installed the new drivers, called the people.. nothing.

-The laptop ticks when volume is adjusted. Its very annoying. Not even an useful tick at all.

-I think Microsoft is the devil and I am buying a Mac next time around, which may be sooner, because I'm about to chuck this pile of s--- out of the window. I spent nearly $1000 on it, and it sucks a--, and I'm pissed.

RANT #2

I hate Manitoba Public Insurance.

Since Sepetember, I've been getting s--- from them for passing out at the wheel and writing off my car.

They immediately suspended my licence because of a 'potential medical condition' I had this sorted out, and it was hell to keep my jobs and to get to school.

They suspended it a week later for negligent driving. At the same time, I was being medically examined. I got a 45 day permit and dished out more money so I may drive to work and school.

Meanwhile, I se a neurologist and get diagnosed with some sort of seizures. Licence is immidately and irrevokably suspended for 6 months since accident.

I AM PISSED AT MPI. First off, they have NO RIGHT or ability to accuse me of sleeping at the wheel. Now that I've paid and suffered because of their morally illegal judgement of my character, I want revenge in the worst possible way. MPI is a socialized thing, there are no other options, and we must suffer at the hands of these retards. It is unfair that I cannot receive some compensation for their stupidity causing me severe inconvenience, loss of job, mental stress (Already depression prone).

The whole system shoudl hit the garbage can, fromlegistaltion, to enforcement, to regulation. I've had a buddied pulled over, with a hot boxed car, weed smoke pouring out of the window, with no licence. He gets a warning. I've had a friend run a stopsign because she was eating and driving, started crying, and the cop simply walked away.

I'm a pefectly capable, safe, intelligent driver, and I get in this ammount of policital bulls--- and I just want to kill someone.

Can you switch insurance providers?

How's this for a rant...

I needed an alignment. I was referred to Ideal Alignment by another shop a while back so I took it to them cuz I knew that it was going to be a little more work than a standard alignment and they do that sort of thing. I needed about 3-4º of camber adjustment.

I called them to check and they told me it was done. When I asked what I owed them I was told $358.05. Now please correct me if I'm wrong, but $165 for the alignment PLUS 1/2hr per wheel to slot the top hole on each strut "Slightly" to use his word, seems somewhere between ludicrous and outrageous to me.

Then, when I suggested that that work ought to have been done in 1 hour maybe, not two...his reply was..."you're welcome to".

But THEN...I get in my car after being violated and lipped off...and my driver's side floor mat is missing! How do you lose a floor mat? It's been weeks since I washed the car, and I know I didn't take the floor mat out recently. They're just like...meh...I didn't take it.

WELL IT WAS THERE WHEN I DROPPED THE F@#&ING CAR OFF THIS MORNING!!!

So raped, lipped off and robbed by Ideal Alignment.

How was your day?

reminds me when i was charged 250 ~ for an alignment years ago. they didnt steal anything except my money though.

crap like that will always happen unfortunetly. all we can do is minimize reasons the car needs to go to a mechanic. Ive got it down to emissions test and alignment. and i bet i'll end up with a used alignment machine in my garage one day with a nice ramp hoist.

I could have bought a home alignment kit with a nice quality camber/caster gauge and done it myself for a little over half that...that will be one of my next purchases.
