Re: Mooneggs 92 MX-3 Daily Driver IP 11/23, 6 months update

Post by Mooneggs »

I guess I should do an update... it has been 6 months!

I have not done any mods to the car. I did acquire a second set of silver MS-01R that I wrapped in Dunlop Direzza Starspec (my new favorite street tire) that I have been daily driving and using for rainy autocross (and doing quite well in those conditions I might add). I finally got around to gluing the MS-01R center caps and have been using them for a while now. I've only lost one of the clips so far so that's not bad considering how hard I drive :freak: Speaking of center caps, I picked up a set of MS-01S center caps that I will use with the bronze MS-01S I acquired earlier this year. I finally made a decision and I will be wrapping those in my new favorite street tire and will be continuing to use the MS-01R race tires for autocross.

I also acquired a set of the AZ-3 zig zag floormats. They were pretty dirty so I did some foaming carpet cleaner on those as well as a set of the Eunos Presso faded red to black type that I had been daily driving with this year. I used the zig zags for a few weeks but they really started to drive me crazy! lol

The only big project I did on the DD was to replace the water pump and basically the rest of the cooling system.

I attended a ton of autocross events this year. I ended up coming in 4th place in the Oregon Region Porsche Club in the Non-Porsche Race tires class. Pretty good considering my competition was a 2005 Mitsubishi Evo fully prepped for auto-x, 1974 Datsun 240z with an LS-1, and a fully prepped mazda miata (which I basically tied with). I think the most fun event was at a local Go-Kart track called Pat's Acres. I think more clubs will start to use that course for autocross next year

I moved twice in the last 6 months. In my new apt, I now have an attached garage which is super rad. It's not really big but better than the dinky ones you normally get in apartment complexes. I'm still in the process of sorting through all my mx-3 parts in the mooneggs warehouse to really determine what I actually what I want to do and sell/get rid of everything I don't have a plan for. I'm still housing the Race Car in the barn at the farm I used to live on and will be resurrecting it over this winter. The goal is to use it strictly for autocross next year (pretty extensively, dual and quadruple drivers when possible).

My next update should be regarding what projects I have left to pursue on this car as well as the update to badging/winter aesthetics.

As expected here's a whole bunch of random pics I've taken over the last 6 months! Also I just got an iPhone5 a month ago so you should start to see better quality pics from here on out. Thanks for your patience with my crappy pics over the last 6 years  8)

Good to see an update Mark!! What're your plans for the race car, as far as the "operation" goes? I'm genuinely curious what you have planned...

If those floormats truly drive you crazy, do you think you'd consider selling them? I kinda like the look, different as it is! Are they pink/black?

I'll be updating the Race Car worklog... with details once I sort them out.

They have faded to a pinkish/red... No I won't sell them (as I'm sure you guessed 8) ), I may throw them in from time to time just to mess with passengers or for car shows :freak:

Seeing the MS wing on MX3´s makes me miss my car :crying: :crying:

The MS-01R´s are kinda starting to grow on me. I will need a second set of rims one of these days (you always need at least 2) so if i dont find any MS-01S´s by next fall I may just break down and get the 01R´s. Your not running OEM size treads are you?

I love the hood as well. It has a OEM vibe to it. I know you may hate it but i plan on painting mine when the entire car gets resprayed after taxes

You lost a clip?!?! Explain, so i can take the proper precations NOT to lose thes 40 dollar paper clips off these 200 dollar caps

You need to rewire your headlights, yellows cool for fogs not so much for the headlamps. Who had the car with the uber rare jdm foglamp grille btw?

I'm running 205/50/15 on the street, 225/50/15 for the race tires. Yeah I was bummed about losing the clip. It was during an autocross event, I'm driving hard and it's slightly bumpy in places. :x

I really like the last picture in black/white, also the picture where your car is in the rain makes it looks so different again.

I'm curious what will happen to race-car this winter.....

Re: Mooneggs 92 MX-3 Daily Driver IP 11/25, winter aesthetic

Post by Mooneggs »

So I had quite a productive 4 days off over Thanksgiving 8)

I was able to get the majority of the winter aesthetics completed:
Before:
White MS horn button + time trap
Faded red to black Eunos Presso mats
Black MS Sport seats
AZ-3 side sills
MS-01R rims with Dunlop Direzza Starspec 205/50/15

After:
Black MS horn button + dimpled MS cover
Gray Eunos Presso mats
Black SE Leather seats
Eunos side sills (no taxi stickers)
94 GS 5 spoke rims with Michelin Hydroedge 205/60/15

I still need to swap hatches from AZ-3 indiglo + MS spoiler to Eunos indiglo + wraparound spoiler. I need to buy another camera and install it in the other hatch as well as prime the wraparound spoiler and caps. I realized this is the first time I have ever used these gray presso mats since I just didn't use floormats last winter! I pieced together the best of the 2 sets I have 8)

I was also able to get my HIDs working again by combining the good ballasts with the good bulbs from the 2 sets I had :D

Never ceases to amaze me how much I can fit in the mx-3. was able to fit an entire set of rims + 2 of the SE Leathers by just taking out the pass. seat and the rear seat cushion :freak:

It's also amazing I can fit a stack of rims, 2 full metal shelve units + a washer and dryer, CF hatch and hood in my new garage - tight fit but it works pretty well!

No.

The rear quarter panel and rear fender are damaged. Have been since before I owned the car.
