if you were in my town Id hook you upV8KOMX3 wrote:shoot You can get 3 asain hookers just for having these new lights put on the car and your money will work more than one time so in short lights are worth more in the long run. And if you know were to get a good paintjob 4 $900 let me know cuz I need one.

Another quick update - I've been a bit preoccupied the past couple of weeks with the new addition to my family (my wife and I are the proud parents of a new baby girl!
). Now that things have settled down a bit on the home front, I can turn my focus back to this project.
I will be finishing prototyping the mounting system this week, now that I have everything I need to test the three fitment options I have it down to (I only had a low-beam light unit previously). I may post a couple of pics next weekend to get some feedback on which light placement you guys like better. Once that decision has been made, I'll get some production-quality brackets fabricated and pass them on to my mould maker for design work on the housings to go ahead.
I'll also need to get my hands on a set of GTS headlight covers as well, so that the mould makers have them on-hand to look at how they fit to the stock lights and design the housings accordingly.
At this point, I would say we are looking at early to mid-October before we are ready to produce and ship the kits, assuming we have the necessary numbers. That is still pretty much on target.
Another update to follow later in the week.

That is correct - the housing-only kit will include:
**ECE H7 high-beam units with city lights may be substituted for an additional cost.
***Relays will also be available, but kits with relays will not be pre-wired to accomodate the end-user's personal preferences for location, wiring, etc.
- Rear Mounting Brackets (x2)
Front Covers (x2)
Mounting Hardware

Hella DOT H9 DE (projector) low-beams (x2)*
Hella DOT H9 FF (reflector) high-beams (x2)**
Direct plug-in adapters (9004 to dual-H9, x2)***

Unfortunately, there is simply not any room to put three light units in there! As Taras, Pat and others will confirm, it is hard enough just getting two in! Once I get the production-quality mounting brackets made, I will take a few pics so you can see how tight the clearances are.
I should also note that the Golf kit illustrated in your post has a low beam, a high beam and a turn signal - it is NOT a fog or driving light. Also, the H7 90mm modules are not DOT approved - only the H9's are.
One other quick thing:
The housings will also be available in chrome for an additional cost . I would only recommend this for those who plan to use the GTS covers over top, because the chrome housings look a bit dumb without covers. With the covers, it looks a bit more OEM than even black or body colour. Not 100% sure what the additional cost for that will be, but I wanted to let everyone know that it will be an option.

hey tatsu. i'm not doubting your word or anyone else's who has gone ahead with this endeavour, but can you explain how this car has 3 lights in each housing??? i came across this for another post and saw these.
obviously there's some fibreglassing and it looks like there's been some bodywork, but it seems as though 3 lights COULD fit. i dunno.

Again, that is a turn signal on the inside - they don't have much depth to them, unlike a fog or driving light that is more like the headlight units in depth (4 - 6"). Because we already have turn signals in the bumper, it would be redundant to have them in the headlight as well, so I am not including them.
As for fog/driving lights, it is the depth of the unit that is the problem, because there is a solid metal piece angling back from the grille/radiator area to the rear mounts for the headlights. With this project, the idea is to not require ANY cutting or modification to the stock body to fit the unit, so a third light unit will not fit.
Another update on this project - my mould maker has gotten a bit busy now that the summer is over, and it will take four to six weeks for the moulds to be completed. We are now looking at mid to late October to be production-ready.
Further to my last post about the availability of chrome-plated housings - the company I will be using can also do tinted plating (E.G. black chrome, or various candy-coloured chrome plating).
Aesthetics aside, a further word of caution - because of the nature of the process, the plating company absolutely does NOT recommend using the chromed housings without exterior covers (E.G. GTS headlight covers), because the finish is susceptible to rock chips just like a painted finish would be, but is difficult to re-finish if it is damaged.
A rough estimate of the additional cost for plating the housings is approximately $100.
Personally, I'm thinking black chrome housings with clear GTS covers over top will look awesome!

thanks tatsu. i knew it was an indicator based on its orange color. also, i personally think it's a bit crowded to have all 3 lights in there, but i was just curious as to how they all fit. makes sense now though.
