I'm pretty sure you have to cut the third link one since it's welded or something onto the linkage?... that's why you have to get a new bolt.

I cut 4 exactly the same. I'm sure they'll work but they don't look very nice so I would be embarrassed to sell them. I will continue to practice and get something that you will all approve of.

Wyt, Aren't there tables for feed rates/spindle speeds for materials?

I'm not very knowledgeable at all in this feild, I've worked with a few home brew mills/routers, defining my own bits and all.. nothing much.


Also, I'm in for a set if they're made.

The ones I got from the other dude don't look "perfect". You can see that they were turned.. No big deal. They look like they'll work great.

Ryan, there is less information available for specific plastics like this. I did a bit of research and it went fairly well for a first try. Also the lathe I was using is about 30 years old and really loose. I have a friend with a smaller, newer lathe which I think will give better results.

The bolt to the third link does come out. Mine does at any rate. I think it's just the location that allows it to get wet and corrode really badly. Right now both ends of my linkage have decent condition stock bushings in them so I'm not sure how much difference I will notice. I'm going to toss them in tomorrow and I'll let you all know how they fit/feel.

Yeah, if you're 3rd link comes out, someone replaced it before you or its broken. The 3rd link is riveted, the joint right next to it has a bolt and a nut.

Well then this is my third MX-3 on which the previous owner did so, because they have all been removeable.

I think you're confusing the 3rd link w/ the link at the tranny. The "3rd link" has a rivet through it, and is RIGHT next to the tranny bolt. This is a really good description! As you can see, you'd have 2 bolts right next to each other, there would be 6 of the same size shifter bushings required, and then another 2 larger ones for the stabilizer arm.

Ahh....you are right. I was wrong. I misunderstood the "third link" reference. Yay, learned something today!

Yeah, THAT's the one that causes the SSS because it's not supposed to be replaced, I replaced everything else and was like ahh why is it still wiggling! I can't wait to fix it myself!

I get lucky at work because all our equipment is CNC controlled. We can adjust feed rate vs. spindle speed for bevelling and tapering applications. Adjusting standoff (On something threaded) requires no thinking at all, aim 3, measuring 2, adjust +1. It also helps having 3 million dollar threaders with 750,000 dollar programming! Man I miss work. Damn recession.
