OK back on topic:

New compressor doesn't work.
The system takes pressure and keeps it (fairly well) but on the high pressure side there's the pressure switch that shuts off the clutch when there's abnormally low/high pressure. I checked the HP line and there's not HIGH PRESSURE on that side at all like there should be. I think the switch is saying, "abnormally low pressure" and the clutch isn't engaging.

There's a expansion valve on the coil, and I have a replacement coil laying around anyways. I'm going to rebuild that side, replace the dryer, then try again pressurizing the system.

All the relays tested great.

Anyone have anything besides "take it to a professional" to say? such as, "check X and Y" or something?

That is worth a read for DIY A/C recharging. From what I understand, if the clutch didn't engage when you were filling the freon, then it probably didn't charge the whole system, just the low side.

I still say take a direct 12v source off the battery and jump the A/C clutch to make it engage. The tutorial suggests your 12v wire source to be fused. Its really a cheap thing to check.

Yes, I somehow overlooked that advise which probably would have solved my problem. sigh... I have no time until thursday to get everything prepped again. I got one o-ring to replace with all the switcharoo's, pick up another can of freon and another gauge since the one I was using decided to be stupid. Thanks, savin.

OK I have replaced the expansion valve and dryer. I hooked up the compressor to the battery. the clutch activates fine. I charged the system this way as well. So fully charged, no leaks, everything plugged in. relays check out OK.

The ONLY way I can get the AC to engage is to jump it with the wire though. but the car won't engage it by itself. Any other suggestions?

I'm going to try and source a AC pressure switch and try that. Maybe the one off my ze works.

Honestly not trying to be an a--. If I had access to my repair manual and trouble guide I would read a bit and see if I can help with some ideas... If it is still not fixed in the next couple months I should be in the new house and have at least some of the new garage set-up. Post a post on MOCA. You know Justin is a mechanic with xp and certification in AC systems.

Umm, how about the fuse. Additionally, if the fan isn't selected ON the ac won't come on and I mean the fan has to be working so if your fan speed switch isn't working on lets say, Low and you have it selected to Low then the ac won't work. Sorry best I can do.

there is no fuse for the 4cyl. it's on the main fuse.

Just a thought, but is it possible that your HVAC controls went bad? I mean, if the switch inside that doohickey whatchamajigget went bad, it technically wouldn't send power to the A/C clutch allowing it to engage, correct?
