So should i be looking to upgrade to the b6d b6ze or something else whichever is simplest would be preferred

Good catch. 1.8L is the BP
1.6l is the B6DE.
You don't want the B6DE. You want the BP.
The B6 (seen in pic) is NOT an easy swap option.

definately. do a bit of research, there are a few worklogs with them.
