My daily Subaru is the same way. I am so used to it, it is second nature now...

"Also, you have to wait for passengers to get out, reach across and lock it, and then get out yourself." I do that all the time, because most forget / dont hold the handle up...

too bad installing power locks is so expensive, feel like a bum when telling a girl to lock the door when she gets out
It's not that bad, you're probably around $250 installed with an alarm.

That's only on cars with the power passenger side lock option, which is standard on the GS I think.

And my friend locked the keys inside his old mx3 and he had keyless entry. His system locked the doors around a minute after you took the keys out of the ignition and he left them inside the car with the doors closed. Anything's possible. :P

And I actually locked the keys inside mine the first time I drove it, it was the end of winter and I was making a 150ish km trip, it was cold and rainy and I couldn't keep the heater on because it fogged up the windshield like crazy. I was stuck at a gas station in the middle of nowhere with no cash and around $4 on my debit. Luckily my dad paid the CAA guy with his credit card through the phone.

wierd. Mine and my friend's RS both have the power locks, I thought it was just standard on all of them.

I'm frankly surprised that people are not familiar with this. Cars have had this "dummy lock" feature since the early 80's.

following power locks were standard on all GS's however I didn't know it was optional on RS's.

Does this have anything to do with power? Cause my 92 GS has been sitting for a while (it's a parts car) to the point that the battery is done so the power locks don't work anymore, and I can lock the door from the inside and when I close it it doesn't unlock.

The “Dummy Lock” feature is purely mechanical. If the handle is not up, a small pin moves the locking mechanics when the striker plate moves the latch.

The following power locks use a position sensor in the driver’s door and an electric actuator in the passenger door so if there was wiring damage to either of those the power locks might not function properly.

if you walk onto any random yard, you'll finda t least one vehicle with the keys in it.
Don't you also live in a small town where everyone literally knows everyone else?
