At last, MX-6 ECU + KL02 vs. Probinator + JE50 dyno results.
Re: At last, MX-6 ECU + KL02 vs. Probinator + JE50 dyno results.
Yeah, I guess I should have tried all the combos, but I could still butt-dyno it. If it works at all, that is.

Lets do it, we could be onto something here that can gain us mx3 guys some fuel mileage and performance that we are missing..
Look at 1/4 mile times, MX3's are almost always in close with probes and mx6's even though they are heavier.. I understand that a kl01 cammed mx may be abit slower, but my kl31 cammed car don't feel much faster then my black car that had kl01 cams.
I am gonna get a kl02 as well and see what's up. Is there anyone that can do a dyno comparison? Not just a butt dyno?

Althought the 7-8hp might not be noticable, the mileage will be. More accurate than the butt lol.

Exactly, my car is quick enough for me, I want better mileage with these gas prices. I dont understand how my brother with a heavier car, heavier driver can get 6-7mpg more then me on the SAME road at the same speed. We both run the same codes, his motor has at least 50k more then mineonlytrueromeo wrote:Althought the 7-8hp might not be noticable, the mileage will be. More accurate than the butt lol.
Re: At last, MX-6 ECU + KL02 vs. Probinator + JE50 dyno results.
Dyno sessions are expensive, so I'm probably not going to do another one for a while. However, if it's true that KL02 leans out the mixture, then Probinator's tendency to run rich would be balanced out, and you'd be getting a perfect mixture... HUH...
Yeah, I didn't really think to run the Probinator/KL02 combo, because I thought Probe guys switched over to JE50 after getting a ZE, since that's the correct VAF for the engine.
If someone else wants to do a dyno, then that'd be cool. At least now we know what to test and what to look for.
If Steve sells me the parts, I could actually experiment with various combos and get some numbers.

The probinator is designed so they Probe/Mx-6 owners don't need to source a JE50 VAF; the one that we are fortunate about to have stock.Whisper wrote:Yeah, I didn't really think to run the Probinator/KL02 combo, because I thought Probe guys switched over to JE50 after getting a ZE, since that's the correct VAF for the engine.

There are posts here that say they tried the kl02 vaf w/ their chipped ecu and the car had hesitation or ran poorly, so who knows.

mine went from running like poo, to a noticeable gain(in both efficiency and power) and not dumping unburnt fuel/carbon onto the ground behind me. having no cat might help with the pile of carbon though...
I'd try it, what do you have to loose?

Re: At last, MX-6 ECU + KL02 vs. Probinator + JE50 dyno results.
Yeah my tailpipe is black black black black, and I get poor mileage. I've never driven another ZE, so if I get a few more ponies out of the kl02 I will be soooo happy. I can't go megasquirt yet due to saving the $$ for paint so my ugly car will look nice.
Re: At last, MX-6 ECU + KL02 vs. Probinator + JE50 dyno results.
Yeah, I'll be trying the combo. If Probinator was designed for the KL02 VAF, then that should be optimal.

Re: At last, MX-6 ECU + KL02 vs. Probinator + JE50 dyno results.
I tossed a KL02 VAF into my car last week to see what it would do with the Probinator chip and it barely ran. I'm sure that the chip he does for probes is different than the one he does for us.
I am going to go get a couple of ECU's tomorrow though.

J-Beef tried a bunch of combo's. With his white car, he was trying to get rid of the black build-up above the tail pipe. I think he ended up going with the DE ECU/VAF combo if I remember right.

Yep, I just tried the KL02/Probinator combo and the car ran like dogshit, and I could smell it, too.
Unless someone knows how to tune it so it runs right (or at all), I don't really see much use in trying that any further...

somebody should contact probinator (ryan) to see exactly what he does and if it indeed is a different chip he gives based on engine/vaf/cams/etc

Re: At last, MX-6 ECU + KL02 vs. Probinator + JE50 dyno results.
I recall specifying JE50 VAF as per his request, when I ordered my chip, so I'm assuming our Probinators are custom for JE50. Not that they do a very good job of using it...hehe.
