I have only seen 1 motor in person, and I made a mistake on my part and didn't completely get what I wanted. I was actually better off picking one from pictures haha. They are shady cause they just wanna sell their s---, they don't care if its good or not, just want it gone and then make excuses after. So be very weary of what/where you buy from

I emailed jkjapaneseautoparts.com which is located in Vancouver and they said they have a couple of curved and straight necks for $750. I will go down next weekend and take a look at them. :>:>:>:>

So this is what I should check for if it is a ZE:

The heads should read KL31-101 and/or KL31-1A1
KL01 or KL31 stamped on the camshafts [KL01 for ZE's from Millenias, and KL31 for ZE's from MX-6's]
Square runners, either curved neck [Millenia] or long straight neck [MX-6] manifold

But how do I tell it is a good quality motor?

My question would be how the hell can you prove that the compression test came from that motor?? I mean who says there is not just 1 set of pics they use for every engine! I just rather go and see then engine myself and have it done right in front of me.

I never got a compression test on any of my motors, well, he says he did em but never really tells me the results. Regardless...

Check the valvetrain, that always works for me. If its a clean valvetrain, then the motor usually has low miles and has had proper oil changes...

This is what you will most commenly see, they say its under 50k, but this is proly over 100k:

This one is ok, proly 40-60kL

My current, which is super clean IMO, this is kinda what you wanna look for. No real tarnish, but abit of cam wear (cam flash does not help):

I agree with Colin and I'm sure that he does just have one set of pictures that he sends to everybody. When I called him he told me he had 1 engine left and wouldn't have more for a few months. Obviously putting pressure on me to buy now. I asked if he would take some pics of it for me and he said if I gave a deposit he would, but he couldn't do it for a few days cuz they're so busy. I says...no problem, I'm not in a big hurry, but I gave him the deposit anyway because I know I'm going to buy an engine from him one way or another. Low and behold later that day he sends me a bunch of pictures saying this is your engine we did the compression test...170 all around...blah blah blah...when just hours before they were so busy it would take days.

The guy can clearly not be trusted. I know that. But I don't want him to know that I know that. When I do pick up my engine, I will compression test it myself before I even unload it.

Couple years ago this guy was shady as hell and wouldn't give me proper information, nor did he want
me to come down and do the test myself. So instead I bought a junker pink ford escort
GT for a few hundred bucks. Rest is history.

If anyone needs an engine hoist in Calgary to load up an engine to avoid bringing one with,
just let me know. I have easy access to my hoist and truck from May 1-15th.
