Just get an RX-7, simple as that. It's better than any rotary MX-3 you will build. It will look better, be faster because it's RWD, and it'll handle better.

The way I see it, it's a hobby. We do this stupid stuff because it makes us happy. It's fun to pour your money into something that does nothing but cause you grief.

Do what's fun. Don't do what makes the most sense.

I always thought it would be cool to put a turbo diesel engine in the mx3...GOBS of torque and it'd be funny as hell. But, alas, I have no money or fabrication skills. If you have the resources to do this, why not? I agree it would be easier to keep it fwd and for the money you could make a faster ZE build, but it would not be as unique. I would start my measuring everything on the 13b, and seeing what you would need to do to make it fit. It might not even be possible to mount the tranny in the same position, so you might have to get new axles, hubs, not to mention cutting out the center of the car to make a shifter work. If you CAN fit the tranny in the same place, or really close, then the swap won't be as difficult as we think. Mounts won't be too hard to weld if you have access to a shop. The hard parts will be wiring and a custom converter plate.

Sorry, but I don't see why you would post that in any forum regarding technical modifications. If he buys an RX-7, It'll be just another RX-7. Don't get me wrong, they are amazing cars, but I'll be a lot more impressed with a rotary mx-3. Anyone can own an rx-7.

I have thought about this as well. I love my mx-3, but I am also big into rotary engines. :D
Here is a link to pictures of a fwd rotary civic:

Also a link to a NZ site, where you could call, and they may be able to help:

(from the main page, click on products tab)

I would love to do a rotary-powered mx-3...but that will be for another time.
I have a 1st gen (FB) RX-7, but am having trouble getting a title for it (my 83 rx-7 will most likely be a parts car for my brother 85 rx-7), so lately I am toying around with what to put my half-bridged 13b-RE motor into...possibly a miata, tracker/samurai, or another rx-7?

Either way, doing a fwd-rotary conversion will either be costly and/or require ALOT of fabrication/custom work. It would be cool though...
:D

Heres a hint where to start, guys use to race 323s that were rotory powered.

I used to think the idea was cool but really a turbo rotory isn't the reliable of all engines.

and the mx3 can barely handle the torque from a klze why would you put a diesel KL into it? what do you not want tires?
